Beautiful Hotel

The Check in was awfull they had me make the Check-In very late, the person who was in charge of the check-in did not give me no explanations or gave me an appology for the late check-in. I was very insatisfied by the way we were treated. Regarding the Hotel it is beautifull, the air was not working very well but the room was very nice.

Beautiful to look at.

Gran Milea Puerto Rico is absolutely beautiful, and to the eye, has everything you would want. The fact is, there isn't everything you would want. Half of the staff is great, the other half acts like you are the disturbance. The room was great, other than the weird smell. We had the ocean front suite with royal service. The royal service is definitely over rated and the food leaves a lot to be desired. They are trying, but from an unofficial foodie and someone who works in the food and beverage industry, they fall short. They charge gourmet prices while serving average product and providing sub par service. They miss the ball big time with neglecting to feature any local cuisine. Luckily there is local cuisine within a short drive, but I feel the resort should celebrate where they are, not Italy and the far east. If you stay here; make sure to have a car, bring some supplies, gamble without drinking( as they won't be serving it), be willing to spend, and find the beauties on your own...

gran melia

Puerto Rico is a very beautiful place. However, if you enjoy the city style. I wouldnt pick this place to stay. If was a good distance from everything. Which is nice if you are just looking for some relaxation. Pretty much everything on the resort closes by 11p. So not much night life. If you want some excitement you should pick somewhere closer to the city

Very Nice place

The hotel is a great place to stay at. I will recommend if you are planning to stay here, you must have a car. If you have a car you will be able to travel to the malls, supermarket, beaches ect. The beach at the hotel is not all that. The pool is great.

Location ok, service bad

Puerto Rico was awesome, but the hotel isn't that great after all. The service was bad, the stuff unfriendly and not trained enough. The breakfast buffett on the weekends was good but from Monday to Friday you can only order via menu. The waitress was unfriendly and the breakfast came 45 Minutes later!!!! The only friendly and fast waiter was [...]. We got charged for things which we didn't order and parking was 80 USD for 5 days. That is really not acceptable! The rooms were ok, but the bed sofa was dirty and ugly. Nobody likes to sleep there! The pool area and the hotel lobby are really nice.

Beautiful hotel

Gran Melia is definitly beautiful however the prices are bizarre. My husband and I spent so much money becuase the food was so expensive. Oh, plus it rained more than half the time that we were there. Oh, and on top of that we had a earthquack! Overall, the resort itself is gorgeous. I took so many pictures at the gorgeous pool, restaurants, beach, etc. The people working at the Gran Melia treated us with so much respect. Also, when your booking your trip please remember that even though it says "FREE BREAKFAST" it really isnt- we HAD to pay for tip.

Disappointment

This was our first trip to Puerto Rico. My family and I stayed for 5 days at Gran Melia. Unless you get a rental, the cab fees are really expensive so you become hesitant to leave the resort. There are really nothing to do on the resort except play tennis, use their gym facility or go to the spa. You could play golf, but it is a bit pricy. They do have a pretty nice pool. There are only three restaurants on the resort that serves dinner and one that only serves breakfast/lunch. So you don't get much option. The service was poor. The quality of the food was ok. Definitely not worth what they charge you for for. One good thing is that they have shuttles that will pick you up from your room and drop you off at the hotel lobby and vice versa. The hotel staff were friendly, but the management seems to be a bit poor. My family and I have traveled many times and have stayed at numerous 5 star hotels and resorts. This one is supposedly a 5 star resort, but we were definitely disappointed. It did not live up to our expectations at all. Unless they really turn things around, we will not be going back.

Nice Hotel; However, Not Perfect

Hotel was nice with its facilities. The amentities were quite expensive and there was very little to do at the hotel beyond the pool. Several other area hotels offer many more amentities (i.e. water sports, etc). Also, staff was not very professional or responsive. I have stayed at numerous other resorts, etc. and I was not impressed by the hotel staff. Golf course is beautifull.

almost perfect

The resort was bigger than what we expected! There was plenty to do at the resort and could probably spend your entire trip there & be content. It is a very photo-genic place too! The only issue I had with this place, which might prevent me from staying here again, is the food. Although we tried italian & chinese, it was medicore at best. (definitely not getting your money's worth there) there wasn't a huge variety for breakfast and the ready-made food was either cold or over-cooked. If you don't mind leaving the proverbial reservation to eat, which i recommend, then this place is great.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

the hotel itself is located northern-center of the island. traffic can be a little rough but being close to the rain-forest, luquillio beach, the mall, & relatively close to old san juan - it's not too bad.
