This was our first stay ...
This was our first stay at the Gran Melia, but is unlikely to be our last. The spacious villa-inspired rooms provided all we needed, and had a nice balcony as well. While inside the resort, your food choices are limited to the overpriced but enjoyable hotel restaurants ($39pp buffet as your least expensive dinner option) but if you have a car, there are many good options within 20 minutes drive. Property exceeded my expectations for both service and quality. The timeshare folks are everywhere on this property, but they are a pleasant bunch, even if they didn't talk us into attending the presentation.

open and airy
the hotel is open and airy like being outdoors on the ocean. it was very clean neat orderly .the staff was very friendly and helpful. i would return to here. the only negative was that due to a very slow season due to the economy there were not any real options on a daily basis for restaurants.

The good and the bad!
This hotel is beautiful, rooms large and confortable, good beds. If you're going for the beach, find another location. This beach is covered in small rocks and grass in the water - not pleasant if you want to play in the water. Nothing is within walking distance to this hotel, you are held captive! Not even a vending maching. Purchasing a soft drink or coffee will cost $3 or more. Food in their restaurants is only "fair" and very expensive. We paid $120 for roundtrip transportation to visit Old San Juan. Just an example of how expensive this place is. If you stay here, be sure to rent a car at the airport. We wouldn't go back....there are many other nicer locations to choose from.

RENT A CAR, nothing withing walking distance. You'll find all the restaurants/shopping, etc. about 5 miles from the hotel. And beautiful beaches are everywhere but here!

Beautiful Accomadations
Everything was beautiful, clean and 5 Star. Most of the hotel restaurants were closed. Meals were very expensive. You are far from everywhere, so you need a car if you don't want to stay just at the hotel. All hotel activities are extra and very expensive. They also don't do them if they can't get a big enough group together for the activity, so we couldn't do any activities.

A Superior Vacation in the Sun
This resort was even better than we had hoped it would be. The property was very spacious, the landscaping and grounds were spectacular. It is located on a beautiful, private peninsula right on the ocean. The beach is beautiful, private and very uncrowded. A Donald Trump Golf Club is located next to the Melia Resort, so very convenient for golfers. The gym was well equipped and the paths leading to the resort excellent for jogging. There are 4 restaurants on the property and all of them were very good with excellent friendly service. Staff was exceptional, very friendly and helpful wherever we encountered them. It is located about 25 mi. east of Sasn Juan which we liked. It was an easy location from which to tour other areas on the island. We will return again and hopefully stay for 2 weeks next visit.

Great Experience

Amazing
OK SO many people complain about this resort.... I have been all over the world and this place was amazing... if you like ocean sports it isnt the best place, the beach is a little rocky but no different than the rest of PR. The room was amazing, the staff very nice, the drinks very strong, ask for alex at the wet bar in the pool.... he was amazing..... We had a blast... be prepared to spend some cash if you get room service, but the pool bar food is just the same and you can order there til midnight or soooo... There is a very good local place callled the Verde bar n Grille on HWY 3.... Great locale food... I recommend a car cheap at U-save cost us 20.00 a DAY But its like driving in mexico with out rules..... U turns are manadatory.... Its a great place for kids too..... everyone was happy the help was great and the people were amazing too.. We are plannning on getting married here.. email me if you have questions Meaghancbs[@] we loved it...........
