I wouldn't do it again!

The check in and check out process is ridiculous. The drive to the hotel is long and away from everything. The beach is not friendly, very rocky and the sand is not soft. The Wet Bar food is expensive for the quality of food, nothing special(chicken cesar salad $18). The staff was really nice and helpful. The parking situation can be a problem when there are special events/conferences.

Ask about Richie's restaurant because they have a van that picks you up and the view is awesome. Get there before the sun sets to enjoy the view.

Most Helpful Staff

Not only are the grounds to this resort beautiful, the staff was exceptionally helpful at all times during our stay. We had the Red Level package with our reservation and it was completely worth it. Our butler, Tony, made every single accommodation for us the entire week. We never had to go through the front desk or ask around for recommendations as he was very knowledgeable of all the available activities. Since the rooms are set up in a cluster of smaller buildings, we had a decent walk to the main pool and lobby, but there were golf cart shuttles readily available to provide a lift. Also, being part of the Red Level, all we needed to do was call the front desk and they would send a club car right away if we didnt find one passing by. There wasn't too much of a beach, but the main pool is huge and has many lounge chairs and bali beds available. Definitely rent a car since the resort is about a half hours drive from San Juan, but with Avis located right on site, you can pick up/drop off the car any time during your stay. If you're looking to stay at a wide open huge resort that caters to you outside of the city, this is the place.

Rent a car. It will be cheaper than taking taxis/shuttles to all of the main attractions. Plus, you will be able to go and come at your own leisure.

First time traveler to Gran Melia Puerto Rico

The resort is beautiful and well maintained. The ocean view was amazing and just a few feet away from our bungalow. The staff receiving our luggage were outstanding with excellent customer service. A little shocked with the dining prices, food is overpriced. On the downside, the resort was quite a distance from the airport. Not very happy with the waiting time for us to receive access to our room after checking in. Our room floor was dirty, shower head broken and the room had a strong smell like mildew.

Fantastic Family Gateway

We booked this resort for a week and our choice was perfect. Its a pretty resort tucked away in Rio grande. Although its a bit difficult to find if you decide to rent a car and drive to it. The location is perfect and pretty close to fajardo and Rainforest. However if you do decide to visit San Yuan downtown, its a hr Drive. The staff was very courteous and were at our beck and call. The only con was the food is pretty expensive in the resort. So if you do not have a rental, its a good $$$ to eat everyday in the resort.

Food is expensive in the resort. My suggestion is to rent a car and drive to Fajardo for delicious authentic PR cuisines.

Very disappointed

The drive into the resort is very long make sure that when you arrive you have everything you need for example if you go with a child and you need to buy a half a gallon of milk its about 15 min to get out of there and another 15 mins to get back inside. When we had checked in and then we were waiting for someone to escort us to our room. I noticed that there was a parking sign that said guests staying had to pay $20.00 per day and I just could not believe that. I said there must be a mistake. Besides the fact that we paid to stay at their resort and they charge your Credit card $100 dollar security deposit per day and then they refund it back when you check out. They have to nerves to charge you parking too......... When we arrived to the room it was very beautifull it was just like the pics in their website. I called the reception number to ask if we had a refrigerator to put my Sons milk away because I didnt see one and they told me no theree is not a refrigerator and if i wanted one it was gonna cost $25 for the 3 days I was staying and i laughed about it and said never mind. When i hung up the phone I tried using my andriod for internet there was no wi-fi avaliable and there was a little card that said if you want internet they could provide me dial-up and that it would cost $2.00 per min or $14.95 per day. I just couldnt believe that now a days wi-fi is provided in McDonalds, Starbucks, Hospitals ect......... The only place they had wi-fi was next to the lobbly. When we went to go and have breakfast they was charging $12.00 for continental breakfast or $22.00 for buffet breakfast per person. When i remember when I purchase this deal it said continental breakfast was provided for free. But I wasnt gonna make a show and argue in the restuarant and leave the hotel to eat cause it would have just been so much extra work cause of how far it is to leave the hotel. The waiters don't even make you feel welcome they are so miserable and rude. Then later on that day we were at the pool and my Husband wanted a Corona they charged us $6.50 and that was the only beer we bought I just couldnt believe how expensive it was. I will never go to this resort ever again the place is beautiful but its not worth your money....... very bad service.
