Wonderful 20th Anniversary getaway
The hotel, restaurants & bars were great. The hotel hosted an event on the Saturday during our stay, needless to say there were alot of people on the grounds but he staff did everything possible to make sure that we were comfortable and that our stay was as unaffected as possible. Will definately be returning & will recommend to friends & family.

no kids allowed
The hotel itself I'd beautiful, however it did not meet my expectations in terms of child friendly activities..on the website they boast that they have kids friendly amenities such as kids play room and other activities. We were fooled. There is no game room for children nor were theRere any activities for children other than a rundown tennis table and pool table. The aqua activities are only there on weekends as well as the tatoo artist. There really isn't much for children to do other than swim at the pool. The hotel is 45 minutes away from any major attractions and taxis are 60 dollars or more each way.its you have children this is not the place for them.

Paradise
The hotel was great. It is conveniently located next to the coast. The bungalows are literally minutes away from the beach. The hotel amenities are superb. If you are "red level" customer or not it doesn't matter; each guest is treated pretty much the same. My only gripe about the hotel is the amount of time it took to check in was a bit long for my liking. But, overall the hotel was great and i would definitely come back.

nice place to stay.
Me and my boys(friends) booked this hotel and flight several months before our arrival. so we got a greeaat deal. flew from DFW, to San Juan, Pr. Booked it 2 people per room from Monday to Saturday, we only paid $680 each...including flight. The hotel is about 35-45minutes from the airport, but it is worth that drive. because the hotel is secluded and is closer to nature than if you had lived at downtown San Juan. The drive to the hotel, you get to see all the mountains and the rainforest. When you get to the hotel, you drive through Donald Trump golf course resort to get to Gran Melia. The concierge at the hotel are very helpful. But to check in, it takes a while because they only have 2 or 3 people at the check-in counter. My advice is that, you should just stay at the "junior garden rooms". .save yourself the money. Becasue all the rooms- regardless of what level, is just a couple of minute walk to the white sands of the beach.

Save yourself the hassle and bussle of the city hotels and stay at this place. It is closer to everything you'd wna do...nature wise. And also, save your money and stay at the "junior suites garden view" because regardless of where you room, you get all the almost all the amenities as the red level place.

BFF's Birthday weekend
It is pretty far away from san juan, so if you want some young night life this isnt for you. Now if you wanna relax in a nice chill pool with beautiful views and a nice cold drink in your hand this is the place to go!. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They take you to your room in a little golf car from the main loby but it can also be a nice walk. There are tours they offer with transportation to different sites/activities that PR has to offer. We went on the Old San Juan tour, it was very nice, The only thing I would of liked more was more options of getting food. There isnt anything else around besides the restuarants they have in the hotel. I recomend this place for a weekend getaway but if you stay longer you might start feeling trapped, unless you rent a car but still the drives end up being long. Besides its location the hotel is great! I was very happy with my stay.

The Great Escape
The staff at the hotel were excellent. We were treated like royalty at the red level. This is a very private location if you want to get away from it all. The hotel is near kioskos restaurants (in Luquillo) which is good food and not costly. The hotel is also close to the EL Yunque rainforest which has some amazing views and hikes. This was a great hotel and I would definitely stay here again.

The Gran Melia experience
The resort was beautiful, with fountains, pools and open air lounges all around the main area of the hotel. The rooms were clean and well kept and the grounds were full of nice plants and animals. The rooms were a decent walk away from the main building and the parking area, (especially after a night enjoying the local rum) but there were carts to run you back and forth most of the time. The huge main swimming pool is open all night for those who like to dine and swim but the lounges and bars seemed to close up early in the evening. I never had a chance to play the nearby golf course but the course itself looked amazing. The resort is isolated being about 20 miles outside of San Juan and during the weeknights we had to travel into the city for some entertainment. The resort is very close to the rain forest and fairly close to some other public beaches. We went during a less busy tourist time, (the last week of April) so that may help explain the few people we saw hanging around the pool and there were only a few nights where the party was hopping. I would say the majority of the people we saw there were younger couples and a few families so the singles scene was a bit scarce. The security is good, almost too good making it difficult to sneak a cooler into the room to help keep that bar tab down but I never felt in peril even when staggering to the ice machine in the middle of the night. Overall it was a very nice experience and I would recommend it to others but be wary of the high costs of parking and dining at the resort.

Check in fiasco.!!!
First I was there at 1:00pm so my sister and I could get rooms close or at least in the same building. My sister got her room at 2:50 pm and mine wasn't ready until 4:20 pm. When I asked what was taking so long they just said that special request take longer. I found out later that my room had a late checkout from the previous guest. If they had told me that I would have understood, but no mention of that. Then I called for a pizza special and they said it was going to be 1 1/2 hour and it arrived 3 hours later with starving teenagers in my room.. No activities in the lobby on Tuesday night. But when it was time to check out they arrived bright and early to see if we were leaving on time. I had a so so experience...!!!

Bad Location...Less than Expected Service
The location of the hotel was isolated...you are pretty much stuck on the hotel grounds with limited options to choose from in terms of food and beverage. Beach is not impressive...can't really swim in the ocean due to the sea grass; sand is rough and rocky. Service was way less than expected - very slow staff, not accommodating at the Pool Bar or the Mirador Grill - was told several times throughout the week that I could not get items on the menu because they would have to walk to the main building to get them (not a far walk...I was even willing to walk to the main building myself to get them!!). Stay away...I would recommend staying somewhere closer to Old San Juan because you have more options for food/beverage and activities throughout your stay.
