Beautiful Hotel

The Check in was awfull they had me make the Check-In very late, the person who was in charge of the check-in did not give me no explanations or gave me an appology for the late check-in. I was very insatisfied by the way we were treated. Regarding the Hotel it is beautifull, the air was not working very well but the room was very nice.

The room was comfortable. ...

The room was comfortable. However, the Maid Service did not do a good job of cleaning the bathroom. No hand towels and no wash cloths were provided. The sink in the bathroom was not cleaned daily. Repeated requests to the Hotel Management to correct these discrepencies did not yield any results. I had to pay for the parking of my rental car on a daily basis.

Gran Melia

Gran MElia PR- Check In Process is extremely slow and frustrating we had a early checkin set up and they told us ten minutes for inspection. We didn't get a room for two hours. But once we got in our room and was able to get the things that weren't in the room we had an amazing time. Fun place for couples or families.

Not Paradise

The Gran Melia was an intersting mix of bad and good. Over all a beautiful hotel and grounds.Be prepared to drive through areas that look totally wrong, and you shouldn't be there like construction sites and long areas of poor to no signage. You need a luck aspect to actually find the place, especially at night. There is the nickle and dime you to death aspect of the hotel that was annoying! i.e. paying for parking if you had a rental car, having your comings and goings monitored by the gate ticketing agent to the resort. Prices are high for food and drinks. Be prepared to tip everyone cause the hands are always out! If there is something wrong with your room; it won't get fixed, no matter how many times you ask. Oh, they will sound very ammenable at the desk and the matience man may arrive within a couple hours but he will be unable to fix your problem. Our shower head was broke off and the AC was malfunctioning! Not the best in a very humid climate. DO NOT EAT in the Italian restraunt. 2 out of our 4 orders were barely edible and that was after sending them back.Cold and very, very salty! Steak was okay there. The Asian eatery, was excellent and the portions were huge! We actually split 2 meals between the 4 of us. Watch your check out bill!!!!!! There were things on both of our bills that were not ours, and we're not talking 1-2$ but 45+. So make sure you check it closely. The consierge were very informative and more than happy to help you. They were the best part of the hotel.

Wonderful Getaway

The Gran Melia exceeded our expectations in every way. Every corner of the resort was wonderfully detailed and the staff went out of their way to accomodate our every need. My boyfriend planned on proposing to me in the El Yunque rainforest, but the open air lounge was so beautiful and perfect, he proposed there. The room we stayed in was very spacious, with a separate seating area that included a love seat, oversized coffee table and another table and chairs. It was also much closer to San Juan than we originally thought, taking about 30 minutes to get to and from. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to have a relaxing get-away.

3 to 4 star with 2 to 3 star service

First of all the hotel was nice and elegant, but the service although freindly, was lack luster. There are 3 restaurants only 2 of them working, which didnt matter because the cost was prohibitively high. This was a shame because the hotel is so remotely located (Rio Grande) that you had to do your dining in Old SanJuan 30 min away, or go early to the Restaurants in Fajardo (everything closes early there). There is beach technically but its coral and rocky, this forced you to take a car to Luquillo beach to have a nice beach experiance. I did not go play gulf but i do hear from the locals its one of the better ones in the area. I will never recomend this place to anyone nor stay there again. Its better to stay near Condado area, the hotels are better, better restaurants and attractions.

Takes the car and to go to Fajardo or near areas. The best restaurants are outside the hotel. I recommend Don Pepe and Lolita' s in Luquillo.

Not a good beach!

The Gran Melia in Puerto Rico was somewhat of a dissappointment. First, the beach location is not good - it was small, very rocky and lots of seaweed. We actually wound up driving 15 minutes to another beach since we couldn't enjoy the one at the hotel. Second, SERVICE!! Be prepared for LONG waits at reception, and also not completing requests made to the staff. On the flip side, the food at all restaurants was very good. Prices (if you're from the NY area) were comparable to eating out at decent restaurants. The pool was nice, but there's only one. The kids camp was absolutely useless! Unless you want your child to be outside in the heat with no water activities, I wouldn't suggest it. But, again, the hotel property was beautiful. Be prepared to see lots of iguana's running around! Big ones too!
