Weekend Getaway

The hotel experience was amazing. From arrival staff treated us like their job was the best thing in life. The only issue was the 100 dollars a night for incidentals, so make sure everyone is aware so they can be prepared to pay that. Its just a hold but it can affect youe money for a trip.

Rooms need some cleaning

Resort is beautiful. We enjoyed all restaurants, pool and beach. About the room, closet looked like they hadn't been clean for months. The small fridge in the room was stinking. We asked them to clean, but never got clean. (We stayed in the hotel for five full days.) When you travel with little kid, these small things are big. If you exclude the room, we had wonderful time at the resort.

nice photo shop and way to expensive

This hotel is very remote from anything. to go to a resaurant one must take a 20us$ cab ride there and a 20us$ cab ride back. the food on site is not that great and is extemely expesive. ie a fried fish is 38us$ a day you have to spend around 100-150us$ per person to eat there, The bar tender doesnt know how to mix drinks well and after 12 the bar closes. the rooms are like .5 miles from the main lobby. the supposed garden view is two cocnut trees and a bunch of bushes. th beaches are full of sharp rocks, the supposed ive music was a broke DJ who close up at 1130.if you open the refrigerator in the room they charge you. there is no microwave. there was garbage in our hallway including balls of hair, dust balls, and pizza boxes. There is nothing to do but bake in the sun, swim in the pool, and spend lots of lots of money on thier over priced food. the people there are so unwilling to help you. especially in the restaurants...we left after our 2nd day went over to the marriot in condado and had a blast. I dont know how grand melia is anything more than a two star hotel.

Not good for the Money that we Pay

Room is nice but didn't have a refrigerator. The TV is ver old. The frigobar was not working and with no itmes. Cleaning hte first day they change towels but didn't clean the bedroom and the bed, I called twice, but they dind't sent anyone, so finally around 8:30Pm when I claim in the front desk they sent someone to clean. Other day they clean but they didn't clean bathrrom, replace towels and glases The beach, is a short beach with no sand, so is very unconfortable to walk to in the water, they could brng fine sand and remodel the beach. Restaurant durnig lunch the unique option is the grill bar near to the pool, limited meanu but the food is nice, unique problem you must to eate with a cats around your table and you must to figth with crows that try to stole your food. The other restaurant we visited the japanise, that was the worst experience of my life in a japanase, we try susshi, they fere 8 options of sushi 5 of them with avocado, quhen we order they indicate us they don't have avocado, how is possible in a resturant do not have a component of 5 of their 8 dishes. We orderd a Shrimp tempura that was not a tempura, really they don't havce a chef to cook, only young people with no knolwegde of japanese food to do the work as ship as possible. The other restarant tha we visited was the local cusine, was fine but not extraordinary. Near of Gran Melia ther is a palce named Luquillo where you will find a lot of little restaurant with local cusine, some of them I will not tried becaus ar not cleaned, but we visited the Conga of the Seas, is amazing the quality and the presentaiont, the best Mahi-Mahi that I ate in 15 years,

Very expensive four star resort

Excellent grounds, extremely clean rooms, beautiful surroundings. The hotel charges $15.00 per night for parking and $15.0 for in room internet. Food at all the three restaurants is significantly, outrageously overpriced. Do not eat there under any circumstances. The Spa is overpriced - $90 for 25 minutes massage?! No beach to speak off. You cannot swim in the ocean water right of off the hotel grounds, due to strong currents. The swimming pools are beautiful and that's where most people spend the time. Do not eat lunch at the pool - overpriced and extremely small portions.

Relaxing to get away, but need to think about dinner in morning

the Gran Melia was a good experience for myself and my family this past Christmas week. The resort is nice it is a little remote no shopping nearby or really in hotel, you can get market items. I recommend getting red level if for nothing else than the pool access , free buffet breakfast that is worth it right there and if you need something special you get a "butler". Ask for Tony or Gabriel both are good people and get things done. Spa was good value. We relaxed, good pool and close to ocean, ocean is not really swimmbale but good for exploring. Rooms are good on garden side. If you want relaxing, do nothing, go. If u need activities go elsewhere.

Beautiful, relaxing, slow service

Pros: Beautiful grounds, pool, and beach. Spacious, clean, and tasteful rooms. Easy access to two golf courses and two tennis courts. Easy access to local activities such as El Yunque Rain Forest, Fajardo (bio bay kayaking here). Quieter beach than the San Juan hotels, and very long, which makes walks on the beach very pleasurable. Breakfast buffet included as part of Red Level, and tasty, quality, everything from make your own omelet station, waffles, French toast, fruit, bagels, toast, bacon, sausage, yogurt, etc. - very good buffet. Excellent massage therapists at Spa. Pasion restaurant delicious. Red Level happy hour lasts from 5-8 pm, free and unlimited (if available) beer, wine, cava, sodas, and water. Gabriel is the man. Romantic, beautiful night sky's. Moon shines really bright. One night a professional brought out an awesome telescope and we could see Jupiter and its moons. Cons: Highly understaffed. "Butler" service just means normal hotel service (aka, there is no guy/woman following you around making themselves available for you personally. There were 3 "butlers" for 100 people). There was a loud ringing sound at the main walking intersection. Generally very non common-sensical maintenance times (painted pool bar the day after Christmas, so no drinks or food available; drilling during dinner time; etc.) Don't drink tap water. Hors d'oeuvres at Red Level happy hour are not good - drinks were fine though. Bring bug spray - very buggy at night. Expect an hour or more to receive anything you ask for. You must follow up in order to get what you need. Overall, if I went back to Puerto Rico, I would consider this resort again, but keep in mind the pros and cons.

Dining tip: In Hotel

Don't eat salad at lunch, because they leave the dairy based dressing out in the sun. You will get sick. Find your own coconuts and eat them, drink their juice. It is fun and delicious. Tempo not that great, but people may enjoy it anyway.

girlfriends getaway

The hotel is located very far from old town San Juan, approximately 45 min, and the taxis are super expensive being about 70-80 dollars each way. However, the hotel is only 10 min from the El Yunque Rain Forest and about 15 min from Fajardo, from which you will go to Biobay. The hotel is an older property with expensive food. The night manager Andres and the front desk rep Gerard were excellent in caring for our needs, but the concierge desk could use some tips on customer service. The food is mediocre, breakfast is decent.
