If you're looking for self serve !!
Upon arrival we pulled up front stepped out of the car and were approached with could you pull your car up forward. Then removed and lugged our own luggage from the 100 or so feet we were asked to move the car to. Then contrary to my pre inquiry on parking fees we were hit with $16 a day to park or $21 for valet. We self parked. Then we were offered to upgrade to Red Level for $175 then $145 per night; We declined. The clerk quickly drew some circles on a map and put a plastic bracelet on us and sent us on our way. The next morning we went to the adult pool she had informed us of and we were told it's Red Level only and couldn't stay. The service was horrible .. actually Nill. Asked the concierge for directions and she was only able to get us to the highway. Another time asked for a phone number and again said has no means to look up a phone number to an excursion we were interested in. Asked for a late check out and they offered us till 2pm , then $10 per hour. Mind you that same night overheard a woman got a late checkout till 3pm. All around; Puerto Rico !! Great... Gran Melia; it's no wonder why they left off the D. Very unaccomidating hotel. Not to mention grossly overpriced food and beverages.

Perfect location between San Juan and Farjado.
Exceptionally friendly staff was always available to drive us around the hotel property that we estimate covers 1.5 square miles. Great food. Amenities from the ocean to the course. We will return with our family.

If all you want to do is sit by the pool and drink...
... then this is the place for you. But if you want to do anything else in Puerto Rico I would not recommend this location. Other resorts I have visited provide affordable transportation to locales and tourist sights outside their walls. Not so here. As a single traveler, I felt quite trapped until I rented a car. The hotel seemed very family friendly, and the staff was nothing but accomodating. However there are few options beyond resort dining, and the prices were outrageous, even for a resort. $22 for breakfast?! $16 for a tuna sandwich!? The three restaurants were all "high end" and priced accordingly- sadly the quality of the food at the one I tried was mediocre at best. At dinner the only options are $30-$30 entrees... ; The room was clean and the bed incredibly comfortable. the pool and grounds were beautiful. However the beach is small and not what I was expecting in terms of waves and sand. Not bad but not great. I wouldn't stay here again, but maybe I wasn't their target client. It was just not very fun for a single person.

Short drive from hotel
Go to the Luquillo beach food kiosks. You can see them from highway three and it's a $8-$10 meal that beats the pants off of anything at the hotel. Plus, then you're at a beach. You'll feel like Anthony Bordain!

Gran Melia Puerto Rico
What a FIND! Was a little cautious about going to Puerto Rico. That resort surely changed our mind. GORGEOUS and so accomodating. I have a bad knee and was disappointed about having to walk so far to pool and main restaurant area. No worries! The trams are everywhere and they are so nice. Breakfast buffet was super and fresh.

our resort experiment
we had never stayed at a resort before, and gran melia, on our particular dates, was one of the cheaper ones we found online. Stay here! it's like paradise. the staff is very friendly and the grounds are amazing. super relaxing, though obviously after 3 or 4 days it would be boring. the restarurants, however, are quite expensive, and not so amazing...
