Area description
Our casual family and friends resort is located in Porta Del Sol area of Northwest Puerto Rico. The Porta Del Sol area is not an area of hot night life. Our area is about the jungle, the beach, small traditional hamlets, limestone karst outcrops with deep canyon cut down between them with strong mountain streams. We sit on 35 acres of lush dense tropical greenery that fronts onto 3 miles of isolated, deserted beach. Yes, we said, 3 miles of deserted beach.

Dining

The lounging bar offers our guest a sensual experience that urges a great conversation an exuberance. Swank dens to hide in, cushioned platforms to dine on, water moving through the rocks.

Beautiful Property

The property overall is beautiful, which helped make a great trip. The staff was very friendly and the views of the beach/ocean are fantastic. The cliffside room was nice, but the tile floors were very dirty. As others have said, the section of ocean here is choppy and not the best for swimming, but there is plenty of good swimming beaches nearby.

Nice, maybe too pricey

The good: The beach here is amazing, and hands-down was our favorite part of being here. Watching the kite-surfers was fun. In-room wi-fi. The pools and grounds were well-kept. We ate dinner once at the Eclipse Restaurant on the beach and the food was very good- definitely an experience. The bad: The staff seemed too busy or uninterested in following up with us on things we needed-- housekeeping, recommendations for places to go, phone problems. The phone in our room didn't work, and no one ever fixed it, even though they said they would. Couldn't get cell phone reception in the room either, though we could elsewhere on the property. I felt like we paid a lot for our small garden-view room, which was a 5 minute walk to the beach. If I come back to this area, I would check out Villa Tropical next door. I felt like, for what we paid, we could have elsewhere had an ocean front view and more space ( we stayed in a garden-view studio room). We spent a week here, which was perhaps a bit much for us. While we loved the somewhat remote nature of the area and the natural beauty of the beach, but it's true there is not much to do here if you are not a surfer. The tides were too rough for casual swimming or snorkeling. We did do a day trip to Rio Camuy Caves and Aricebo Observatory with our rental car. Had we planned a bit more ahead, I think an additional day to Old San Juan and another down the west coast might have been good ideas.

Eat at Ola Lola's down the road! The food is basic, but tasty and they usually have new specials every night. The atmosphere is wonderfully laid back, friendly and very affordable. Cash only.

Gated, carefully maintained, beautiful

Short visit. Resort has lovely, sculpted, grounds with tennis, two pools, and kids play area. Fine restaurant and inviting, quiet, front on beautiful beach which might be great for surfing but rough for swimming. Rooms in villas owned by members; which apparently have differing decors and availability. Weekday reservations more available apparently than weekends when villa owners come out from San Juan.

Hotel's description as 90 min. from San Juan is misleading. Allow 2 to 2.5 hrs to/from San Juan.

Looks can be deceiving....

My room was snooped on. And me and my boyfriend encountered a crazy lady who claimed disruptions coming from our concrete wall room. The employees there were nice but I've been to way better places. My opinion, guest should be separate from residence 100%.

Lovely accomodations- better than home

We stayed in a large 2 bedroom condo with 2 baths and a full kitchen. It was very roomy and comfortable. The bed and linens were luxurious. The grounds are well kept. The pools are clean and warm. The restaurant is very nice- casual but fine dining. Really - my only complaint is that they cut the grass, etc at 7am- too noisy!

Great Wedding Week

Stayed at Villa Montana for our son's wedding for 6 days and loved it!!! We stayed in a 2-bedroom garden villa which was spacious and comfortable. The grounds were beautifilly maintained and the place was very quiet--just right for relaxing. The Eclipse restaurant was easily accesible and the food was great. Wish we were still there. Looking forward to going back soon.

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

The Econo supermarket was the closest place to buy food, snacks, and soda--not too expensive either as some people say it was overpriced--comparable to NY prices.

Lovely & Wonderful Resort

The resort was beautiful, the grounds and landscaping very lush. The ambiance of the restaurant was fabulous, and the beach accessible, although swimming was a bit of a challenge since part of the beach is rocky and the surf was rough. The two pools were both quite small however.

A Decent Six Night Stay

Enjoyed the food and the wedding day affair. Was a little disatisfied with service, i.e, waiting for food to arrive and taking care of issues in room (non-working toilet and dead phone).

Paradise with a few rough spots

Before I begin just want to say that I would stay at Villa Montana again. Pros: Location, very peaceful, quiet, relaxing, Eclipse restaurant, most staff friendly/very helpful, pools, small resort so you quickly get to know other guests and staff but only if you want to do so. Really easy trip from Aguadilla airport Cons: Rooms needed some work. Cold water didn't work in bathroom, several light bulbs were out (were fixed when reported), shower temp was unpredictable, shower door broken, couch needs to be replaced, service at front desk was inconsistent (wrong information/not enough information). need to watch bills when charging to room/cc. Building/rooms numbers confusing or don't exist. One of the most relaxing get aways we've had, will visit the Montana again.
