New Parents' Get-Away
Luxury and tropical paradise at its finest. My wife and I headed down to Las Casitas for a long weekend of relaxation, and our first trip without our 15 month old daughter. I can't remember the last time I slept so well. The beds were so comfortable, and Las Casitas was so peaceful (El Conquistador's rooms looked nice too, but it's a different setting over there...not quite as luxurious and serene as Las Casitas). Las Casitas was absolutely gorgeous, from the rooms, to the cliffside views, to the infiniti pool...and not to mention terrific service all-around. Most of the reastaurants, bar, and activities were on the larger, El Conquistador side of the resort. We walked everywhere (it's doable if you're on the Las Casitas side nearest to El Conquistador...if you're not you can call for a golf cart to pick you up and take you over any time), and there is a lot of ground to cover. There are so many restaurants, pools, bars, shops, etc at El Conquistador. We ate at a different restaurant every night, but the one thing we did do every night was get ice cream at the ice cream stand across from the casino...it was delicious. The beach, which is on the resort's private island, is gorgeous as well. It's setup like this since the resort is cliffside, so there is no beach access. A fairy boat picks up twice an hour down below (a roller-coast like elevator setup takes you down from the resort to ground level, where shops, restaurants, and the marina are located). It really wasn't a burden, the only thing would be if you're the type that wants to walk out of your room to the beach every day...that's not possible at this resort, although with the view we had and all the luxurious accomodations, this wasn't a problem for us. We also did a spa day. Now I'm no spa expert, I've been to a few, but this is hands-down the best I've been too. Impeccably beautiful facilities, jacuzzi, sauna, etc. Total relaxation at it's finest. One last recommendation would be the night-time kayaking where you go to see the reflective-light organisms in the lagoon (kind of like lighting bugs in the water). Truly amazing experience, just so cool...words can't describe it.

Awesome vacation
Just returned from a week long vacation at Las Casitas. It was fabulous. The location of the resort is perfect. It's situated on a cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea and the mountains of El Yunque, about an hour east of San Juan. It's very close to the rain forrest, which we highly recommend visiting- takes about 4 hours to get there, walk the trails, and back. It's also walking distance to the Seven Seas beach, nature preserve, and bioluminescent bay. We did the bio-bay tour through the resort and highly recommend- it's an experience unlike none other. You have to leave around 8:00 at night and it takes about 2 hours. Recommend going during a new moon- the darker the sky the better. The resort has it's own private island with ferries leaving from the marina dock. The island is beautiful and offers plenty of activities, lounge chairs, umbrellas, etc. We spent 3 days just going to the island. There are also a few bars and an outdoor restaurant which is good. The pina coladas are delicious. The resort also has many pools at Las Casitas and El Conquistador. We spent most of our time at the Infinity pool which is exclusive to Las Casitas guest. The lunch restaurant at the Infinity pool is very good. The main pool at El Conquistador has a nice swim up bar but is in shadow during the afternoon. We ate at Stingray Cafe twice- it's situated outdoors on the marina at the resort and offers delicious seafood- it's a little pricey but very good. Also ate Blossoms- a typical hibatchi-style restaurant inside El Conquistador- it was good, but not exceptional, and a bit overpriced. Ate at the Italian brick-oven pizza restaurant which is outdoors at the main pool- very good and decent prices- also open late. We also ate one night in town at Pasions el Fagon. I got the Whole Red Snapper and it was the best fish I've ever eaten. We highly recommend venturing out of the resort to go here- it's about a 5 minute cab ride. For breakfast everyday we were fortunate to have a breakfast package through [...]to eat the buffet breakfast at the resort. There were two options for breakfast restaurants- both very good. The one at Las Casitas- Casitos was more of a continental style, perfectly set outdoors and not crowded. Las Brisas at El Conq. was a full American buffet- very filling and good but a little more crowded. There isn't much to do in terms of night life at the resort- at least when we were there it was pretty quiet. There is a casino and a dance club- but they were pretty empty- perhaps during high season, there's more night-time activity. We did go to Drake's Martini Bar at El Conquistador one night and it was fun.We traveled into Old San Juan one day and had a great time. Only recommend this if you're staying for at least a week, as it takes a while to get there and back. Ate at St. Germain and the Parrot Club. Both fantastic. After booking, we filled out a pre-arrival package from the resort website to send them special requests, such as ocean front room, 3rd level, etc. and were very happy with our room. We had an amazing view of the ocean and the mountains, two terraces, and a very spacious room. The grounds of Las Casitas are gorgeous. It's very easy to navigate over to El Conquistador and the island from Las Casitas to take advantage of all their facilities. Maybe a 10 minute walk from the furthest casista. El Conquistador seemed to be dominated by large company off-site conferences when we were there, which can be a little annoying if you're there for vacation with your family, but it wasn't too bad. There were only families & couples in Las Casitas and El Conq. guests do not have access to the Casistas facilities, so it's kind of the best of both worlds. All in all, we had a great time, and definitely plan to return next winter!

Short drive from hotel
Venture outside the resort to El Yunque rain forrest and/or the bioluminescent bay. Both incredible natural wonders a very short distance from the resort. El Yunque is easily navigable on your own- no need to go with a tour group. You can walk to the bio-bay, but should navigate the bay with a guide. The hotel offers a 6:00 and 8:30 tour. Take the 8:30 during a new moon (if possible).

lovely private location but pricey!
First, we did not get to stay at Las Casitas - they did not have one king bed like we requested, but only 2 doubles. That room also had only one small window with a view of the parking lot. When we asked to switch rooms, they said they did not have any more available and transferred us to El Conquistador Hotel on the same property. However, the two share many of the same things. The biggest disappointment was that the resort charged high prices for everything - from $7 for an hour of tennis raquet rental pp, to $15 for snorkel gear. On top of that, when we checked out, they added on another $23/day resort fee - even though there were no included amenities! The restaurants were mediocre at best and very overpriced. The nicest things were - the natural beauty of the resort - it blends nicely into the land; the closeness to natural excursions like the islands culebra and vieques, el yunque, and bioluminescent bays; and the private island that the beach is on (8min water ferry from the resort), the people are very friendly, and the pools are nice (Las Casitas has a personal butler for every room too). Bottom line - this is a lovely, peaceful resort but we just felt like they were trying to squeeze as much money out of us as possible, and we didn't see the value.

Too expensive
Beautiful location. They kill you on the prices to eat though. It's a shame because they could really have something special. Cab rides just to local spots are 15bucks each way. They need to realize you can vacation in the Caribbean for much less at other islands. Until they realize this it will never be packed there....unfortunate because it really is a nice spot.

Stunning view from our room
Beautiful grounds as you drive into Las Casitas Villa, with even more spectacular view from our private balcony overlooking the pool and ocean front. Make sure you visit Palomino Island (private island owned by resort) where you have crystal clear water and lounge chairs waiting onthe white sand beaches. Ferry trip to the island takes abount 8 mins. There are numberous pools, resturants, shopping, resort spa, casino and game room for the kids. There is also a water park. This trip we travel as a couple- next trip we will be bringing the kids..

unbeatable location for the price
This was an amazing trip. The place is beautiful and view of the ocean is amazing. I loved that this resort has it own private island. What I did not like was the lack of cleanliness in the room. The sheets had many spots on them and they were not changed while we were there for a week. My husband and I would check everyday to see if they were changed and unfortunately they were not. In addition there was dust all over obviously they did not clean either. There was also one day that they never gave us towels. My husband called and they only gave us two. They really need to work on the staff because if this continues I will never consider going back.

Lovely spot but distant and spread out
The hotel experience was lovely however there are a bunch of problems that I will list. 1) We requested a crib in advance twice and when we got to the hotel, it was not ready and took three calls to housekeeping to get it set up while our sleeping baby waited in the car. 2) There were no parking spots in the casitas so we had to park about 20 minutes away and wait for the golf-cart transportation to come pick us up and take us to our room. 3) The beach is faa-aaar away. From the casitas it takes a golf cart to the main resort walking all the way down the hall to the elevator that takes you down to the ferry (10 minute boat trip). The whole trip takes about an hour which is a long time if you love the beach. 4) The pools are lovely, the inifinity pool is amazing, looks like you are in the ocean, the water is warm. One problem, no towels after 6 and housekeeping had to be called (told that someone would bring towels right away) and 3 calls and 45 minutes later still no towels - we had to run back to our room wet. 5) The hotel is about a 45-60 minute drive from the airport, the new route 66 is lovely, but 75% of the trip is still city streets with traffic lights. The hotel is beautiful - the pools are lovely, the people are lovely, the service is lovely, the rooms are clean, amazing views, fully stocked kitchens, a beautiful place...not optimal for a family with a baby and great if you just want to stay put around the nearby hotel, but a little trek to go places and pretty far from everything else.

Excellent seafood restaurant, Calizo, about 2 miles outside of the gates of the resort, very casual, good prices, and many different combinations of food that are delicious.
