The Grande Hotel do Porto is located downtown, right at the city centre, where it enables its guests to immediately taste Porto's culture. Monuments, churches, museums and theatres are all at walking distance. Charming and evocative of a long gone age, this is a carefully renovated relic of a hotel that is set on an all-pedestrian street with the densest collection of shops in central Porto. The hotel has been radically renovated in 2010, and now it shows an appealing combination of the 1950s with Belle Epoque accessories. It was originally built in 1880 in a five store "Grand Hotel" format, which is still visible in its late Victorian facade and the elaborate exterior details. The hotel offers Baby sitting service at cost, Banquet facilities, Bar, Conference facilities, Currency exchange, Disabled facilities, Internet access Wireless for free, Laundry service - at cost, Lift / Elevator, Lobby, Parking facilities at cost, Reception, Restaurant and Smoke-free hotel. Smoking and non smoking bar is available. Breakfast is included.

Dining

D. Pedro II Restaurant
It is located in a sort of ballroom, with a strong presence of the "Grand Hotel" heritage from late XIX century. It is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion and it offers a lovely romantic atmosphere for an intimate dinner and the necessary glamour to host big parties.

Staying at the Grande Hotel do

Staying at the Grande Hotel do Porto was a great experience. While the bedrooms are simple, somewhat spartan even, they still proivde what you might need and the public areas (reception, reading room, bar, dining room) of the hotel are truly opulent, decorated with a sense of style and of fun! The hotel staff are friendly, helpful and very hard working. A very good breakfast is provided. Its position is excellent, in the heart of commercial Porto. (Driving there through the old streets is a bit hair-raising; the hotel is in a pedestrian street giving accesss only to the vehicles of hotel residents, but the staff are excellent with regard to the hotel's parking garage.) Very good value for money!

Ground floor impression was deceiving!

Ground floor was interesting with old furniture, rugs, and a nice spiral staircase. It was difficult to find an English-speaking employee. Room was small, cramped, not very clean, and window view was of the wall of a factory. Bathroom sink counter not too clean (the plastic fake-marble shelf).Staff wasn't up on available tours, or able to give recommendations.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

A small supermarket, so that you don't have to pay the obscene costs of mini-bar contents.

great location and value

Grande Hotel do Porto is a very comfortable and has a convenient location in the heart of the city. Room was spacious and had a comfortable big bad. A big plus was a TV with 3 English programs> Breakfast was o'k, could have had a bit more variety of food. the staff was very nice and spoke English they all were helpful. The only big problem I had was a cost of a phone call made from the hotel to Spain> They charge you whatever they want, there is no price list and no arguments. They charged me 1euro for 4 seconds which somehow came out to 5 euroes a minute and then some tax and surcharges. No point of discussing it because all over sudden they stop understanding English!THAT'S A SHAME!!!!!!!!!!,Despite this thing I would stay there again and recommended to the others.
