Don't Bother with this hotel

Don't bother with this hotel. We made a reservation on their website for the Duas Nacoes Hotel (Same owners), but when we showed up they had no rooms. They didn't offer any apology or explanation as to why we had a reservation but they had no rooms. They sent us to their other hotel, Hotel Borges. So we hauled our luggage to the Hotel Borges. We had the choice of the two smallest rooms they had. Room 1 was barely larger than the bed. Room 2 was in the attic and had a ceiling height of about 6 ft. in the center. You couldn't stand up unless you stood in the center of the room. Breakfast included cold coffee. I would have told someone about the cold coffee, but I couldn't find anyone. We checked out and went to the Lisboa Tejo hotel. Better price and much better service.

Unique atmosphere

Excellent location in an appealing part of old Lisbon. Only 20 metres away from Metro entrance at Baixa-Chiado. Great choice of eateries and bars, upmarket shops, churches, and museums within 100 metres. Street entertainers on the doorstep (well a few metres away) - ranging from human 'statues' to South American musicians and Spanish dancers. Good value for money. Basic but sufficient breakfast. Pleasant and helpful staff. Solid walls and doors keep out noise from other guests - one of the few places in Lisbon that manages to achieve this - in my experience of going to Lisbon every year since 1999. Some rooms are modest in size, with "compact" bathrooms whilst others even have their own office and a sofa! Likely to stay there next year!

Great Location, but noisy

It was a great location, but there was a lot of noise and the walls are thin. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Fantastic Location

The front desk staff were pleasant & courteous. Unfortunately the phones did not work. The room was a bit 'smelly' as in need of refurbishment as also the bathroom. In the evening the entrance lounge smelled badly of sewerage, although admittedly not necessarily the fault of the hotel. The location is fantastic , in the heart of the city & its varied amenities. I was loosely familiar with the Hotel in its heydays & it felt a bit of a shame to see what it has become !

Night stay

We arrived at the hotel on Friday which was the last day of our stay. The hotel room had alot of space - bedroom separated from a lounge area - the bathroom was very clean. The breakfast had alot of fruit which was good.

Good location and price

The hotel borges is located right next to the Baixa chiado train station in Lisbon. Everything is easily accessible from this location. The hotel itself is ok. Rooms are spacious but the bathroom is a bit of a tight squeeze. When we arrived the concierge gave us a key to an already occupied room. We walked in on a couple and it was quite embarrassing. Other than that the hotel is comfortable enough. A little musty smelling in the corridors. The free breakfast was nothing special ...consists of bread fruit cheese and unlimited tea coffee and juice. There is a great cafe next door. Overall the location is unbeatable.

great location, not so great hotel

As the title said, great location, right next to the "Cafeteria A Brasileira", awesome place for breakfast vermouth and a late drink. However the hotel itself has much to improve, both in service and in accommodations. First, we were given a room with space barely enough to fit the bed with no space for clothes or anything else (STAY AWAY FROM ROOM 326!!). Then we got a 2nd room where you needed to be a contortionist to wash your hands or teeth. Once they forgot to do our room, and the staff didn't seem to be too eager to bring us clean towels.
