Great location for beach lovers.

A hotel which helped guarantee a great holiday. The location was excellent for the beach, staff were friendly and professional and nothing was too much trouble for them - in particular Lucia. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean. Overall a very positive experience of Carvi Hotels.

Excellent value, great location

There are a lot of negative reviews of this hotel but we thought that it was excellent for the price. Our room was bright and fairly spacious even though we had one at the back of the hotel with a view of a wall, so only used the balcony to dry our beach towels. The room was very clean, had two single beds pushed together rather than a double and the mattresses were very firm, however none of that was a big problem. The air-con was good and we used it a lot and the large walk in shower was powerful and always had hot water. There is wifi in the hotel lobby and bar which once connected seems fast enough for anything we were doing. All the hotel staff we dealt with were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast is basic but adequate with a choice of breads, cold meat, cheese, cereals, fruit (fresh and tinned fruit cocktail), fruit juice, and coffee - The coffee wasn't good and I gave up on this after a few days. Everything else was good apart from the self-service layout of all this which made it a bit of a scramble and shoving match but then Europeans don't know how to queue :-) The breakfast is served on a roof terrace which had good views and was a great way to start the day. The roof top pool is also nice and there seemed to always be space there and at the bar, but we didn't spend much time there, preferring the beach. The hotel is a short walk into Lagos old town but there is also a bus service and tourist 'train' thing that does a circuit every hour - we used this to take us to the marina which was about the furthest point from the hotel, then make our way back through the town. The hotel is right beside Praia Dona Ana beach - which is lovely. There are boat trips from here (or from the town) around the coast to see the grottos and rock formations which are stunning and well worth the effort. For lunch if you don't want to go into town, there is a bar down by the beach that was nice and also there is a small kiosk at the top of the stairs to the beach which was very well priced, good quality food and seems to be run to raise funds for a local orchestra. We also had one lunch in the hotel pool bar - it was cheap and basic but if you really don't want to leave the pool side that's your only choice. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Very Basic

This is a very basic hotel. It is clean, which is critical to me. It seemed everything was always being cleaned and picked up. However, our room was not cleaned during our stay very well (dirty glasses and towels left behind) and the rooms were worn. We stayed one night in a non-sea view room. It was horrible - small, smelly, closed-in, no air conditioning and overlooked a crusty wall. The upgrade ($15-$20 or so) is more than worth it (bigger, brighter, air conditioning). Even so, the sea-view is mostly parking lot view (even the higher floors) since the hotel is set back away from the coast. The pictures are deceiving, as the hotel is really not the property on the coast, but set back. The bathroom is tiny, even for European standards and the shower broke when we were there. Parking is free but since this place is right next to the beach, you may have to jockey to get a space on a good beach-day since it's a public lot. The breakfast is very simple (rolls, cheese, meat, canned fruit, watered-down canned juice) but is on a pretty roof top overlooking the sea and served some of the best rolls I've had anywhere in Europe. On the up side, the rooftop pool was clean and nice and since it's windy up there it's a great option on a hot day. The hotel is very close to the beach, which is not large but very dramatic/pretty. We didn't see many hotels right on the beach in Lagos so if location is important (it was to us) then it's an option to consider. Other than one very rude staff member who did nothing to facilitate our change to our sea-view room (which we reserved ahead) the other staff were very friendly and great!

PROS - Steps from Praia Dona. -

PROS - Steps from Praia Dona. - 10min walk to Praia do Comilo. - These are arguably the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve. - Room balconies are nice to relax on in the late evening. - Staff was helpful. CONS - Must take a taxi to reach Lagos center but it's less than 8E. - No dance clubs, only smaller bars but it's a good setting with options. * RECOMMENDED *

Angenehmes, einfaches Hotel
