Smelly in Szczecin
This was a comfortable enough and well located hotel with friendly staff, EXCEPT that the bathroom had a severe and pervasive smell of urine. Not nice. We thought open window and fresh air would fix the problem, but it didn't.

Short walk from hotel
Finding a good restaurant in this city isn't easy. They don't have an old town square like so many other Polish cities, but there's a good Polish cuisine restaurant about 3 blocks away. Ask!

The stay went well but there tended to be a problem with payment. They wanted to charge me for the room two out of three times I stayed there even though I'd already paid through [...]. It often required intervention of the manager and a few minutes for them to look into it to discover I'd already paid, even with the printed receipts I had with me from [...]

In Hotel
If someone's driving you don't give their license plate when checking in. I thought it might be to ensure they don't get towed away, but it's actually for them to add to charge you parking per night (unless you're going to use the parking).

A good hotel in Szczecin
The Novotel in Szczecin is three blocks up from the train station. The hotel was quite comfortable, and a great value thanks to the deal I got on Orbitz. Combined with the Ibis in the same building, it's the first hotel you meet heading into town from the station -- can't be more convenient. (The Ibis faces Dworcowa Street, while the Novotel faces Trzeciego Maja on the corner.) It's also in walking distance from the main sight-seeing points of interest in Szczecin, as well as the downtown malls and business district. Taxis are necessary for the airport or the port. If you're looking for lodging in a nightlife area, however, look elsewhere. But you may end up looking elsewhere than Szczecin, because the city isn't known for its nightlife, downtown or anywhere else. I recommend the hotel.
