Area description
Hotel is splendidly located in privileged corner of the main Square, facing the cathedral and surrounded by beautiful mansions of colonial times. Hotel is 10 minutes from Chan Chan, the largest mud-built citadel in the world, and from the magnificent Iiuacas, the temple of the Sun and the Moon.

Dining

Malabrigo Bar
A cozy setting where you can try a rum "Malabrigo", the typical drink of the region, or perhaps an amaretto, among other choices.
La Bovedas Restaurant
Offering complimentary daily buffet breakfast; during lunch and dinner enjoy an innovative international menu which makes use of ingredients from the cuisine of northern Peru. A perfect example of the new menu is the "Rbalo a la plancha" dish based on mushrooms and "zetas" which is well worth trying.

Adequate but not great value

I visted my daughter who was working in Trujillo. This hotel is a great location and staff are nice. The room was small. Bedding was high quality, but bathroom needs updating and was cramped. Breakfast buffet eggs were cold, and when I complained no one did anything. I heard someone else complain about same thing the next day. Desk clerks helped me organize outings and were very professional. But it is pricey for what you get, and lacks charm.

Leisurely Luxury

The Libertador (a Peruvian high-end chain - I have not stayed at any of their other properties)in Trujillo was a true luxury hotel with a great central location for those who want to explore this Northern Peruvian city. The hotel is right on the Plaza Mayor and is as handsome as any building in this beautiful setting. The staff is extremely well trained and very solitous , and many of them speak good English. My room was ample and very comfortable and quiet; it had most of the usual amenities and a TV with many different language channels. (It did not have a coffee pot or ironing board, but I have not seen these any hotel in Peru.)The hotel has a big sitting room past the lobby, and a small but delightful pool area where you can cool off or sun; the waterfall brings it a charming tranquility. The hotel has a small but perfectly adequate bar and lounge. But its best feature is its restaurant. I ate dinner there twice, and was astounded at the exteme high quality of their meals. Their salads are fantabulous concoctions, and their beef on pilaf was as fine a meal as I have ever eaten in my life. Kudos to chef [...].Oh, and they serve a fairly elaborate buffet breakfast here each morning beginning at 6AM; it comes with your room.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

When in Trujillo take a ride on one of the three-wheeled "mototaxis" that the Trujuillanos ride on instead of the usual taxi. You won't find them right in front of the hotel (traffic is not generally allowed on the square during the day) but you'll encounter them all over the city. The're fun!
