Beach and Food are Awful. Photos look better than the real thing!

The hotel needs a bit more TLC; it's tired. The rooms are very basic, clean but some wear and tear here and there that need attention. The beach is terrible, at low tide when the sea pulls out there is so much trash and junk on the sand that one doesn't even want to step foot on it and definitely not swim. At high time the ocean comes right up to the edge of the law. The most disappointing was the food. The breakfast was decent, with a wide choice at the buffet. At lunch the only place open was the pool bar - and very limited and unappealing menu. Dinner was the worse. Chinese buffet, Italian buffet, French buffet...all the food was just awful; dull, overcooked. We asked the hotel to recommend a good fish place nearby and they did; a beach to the left of the hotel and the place was dirty, fish was not fresh and very oily. So the rest of our stay we drove into Panama city to have some decent food for lunch and dinner! Service at the hotel was decent, but nothing special at all. The spa was good, excellent massage treatments! And good products from Clarins; although they say they carry the whole line of products; they don't, not even close. But their treatments were good.

Playa Bonita

We stayed at many boutique hotels in Panama. We assumed this one would be as nice or nicer. But, there was a swamp in front of it which caused a lot of mosquitoes. We weren't bit the entire 10 days in Panama except at this resort. We also got sick from the buffet and everything tasted the same. The rooms were nice and the service was good.

good, not great

We got a great deal online but it did not include internet or breakfast. So their internet and breakfast were both overpriced. Food at the rest inside the hotel was not good, borderline bad--really bland and not right temperature. Business center charges you to get online ($3/15min) AND charge to print (.50cents per page--to include boarding pass!). On the other hand, the location is excellent. Dinner in the Lighthouse rest (poolside) was delicious with great service. Beach, pool, all other amenities were great. Concierge staff dealt with our issue effectively and efficiently. Overall, we highly recommend this hotel but know the faults, have certain expectations and your trip will go beautifully.

Not perfect, but good

Our dinner at the Lighthouse was very nice. The other restaurants were ok but not great. The rooms are nice, large, and very clean. The bed was the highlight of the stay. Out phone in the room did not work so it put a huge damper on ordering room service. Plan on spending a lot of money on food and drinks because there is nothing outside of the hotel.

Wedding getaway

Our experience was good. Location was good, cab rides to the city are not too expensive, pool was nice, buffet could have been better.

Room for improvement

The room room described on the reservation would have been very noisy. It was the closest to the lobby and adjacent elevator. The front desk staff needs to be more efficient and professional in the checking in and out of the guests. Since this is a Panamanian franchise for Intercontinental Hotels, doubt that this would happen. Maybe when a Westin Resort opens next door, something might happen, but it appears to be on land owned by a Panamanian investor that also works the Intercontinental Hotel. Not much choice is given on restaurants or food available - usually forced into the buffet lines

Not a great experience

I'll start with the pros: the area was pretty, the pools were nice and the rooms were clean. The cons: unfriendly service (worst I have ever experienced), expensive and horrible food (I just ate a granola bar the last day because I couldn't stand to eat one more thing), it is in the middle of no where and hard to travel from, it was nothing special. I'm really surprised that at $215 a night in Panama that this is what you would get. Overall the stay was very disappointing.

Mediocre service

The physical appearance of the hotel is very pleasing. However, the service leaves a lot to be desired. Except for one restaurant, one with a thatch roof by the pool, it was very difficult to get rapid satisfactory service. All I wanted was to see on one of various occasions was to have a waiter/waitress come take care of us, without being promted, when we sat at a table. It would have been nice to have the coffee available in the morning to make, and other pleasantries that were missing.
