Central Location, beautiful facilities, but...

Newly renovated, great pool, responsive, central location in Panama City, but.....the construction of the subway on Via Espana and elsewhere in the city has made traffic a nightmare in the central part of Panama City. Unfortunately for Hotel El Panama they are right in the center of the insanity. It would probably be better to stay to the west of the city and only brave a trip to the east when you leave for the airport. So until the construction of the subway is done...location 1; room cleaniness 4; room comfort 3 (on arctic air conditioner or off ); staff 5; value 4.

Great Value; Great Hotel, as long as they don't overbook.....

We arrived the first night to hear that our rooms that I had reserved over 6 months in advance had been given away. They provided transportation to an alternative hotel that was nice, but definitely note the same as El Panama Hotel. We were able to get our rooms the next morning, which was great and the pool setup is amazing; we only wished the pool was open longer. Great casino connected to it, which provided hours of fun in the evening. I would definitely recommend to anyone, but would fully disclose that there's no guarantee you'll have your room available when you arrive.

Worth It

After a rocky start of not being able to get into my room for 2 1/2 hours, when I finally was put in my room, it was worth the wait. The staff is great, accommodations are wonderful and the hotel is being renovated to stay in line with the more trendier hotels. The Lobby is absolute beautiful, business center is convenient and the restaurant is great. What more can you ask for.

If you have the time, hire a private tour guide to take you around Panama City (ask for Armondo, he is great).

Relocated to an alternative hotel

The hotel has a good reputation, I managed to view the lobby/reception area. Due to mechanical/ water damage the night manager relocated me to an alternative hotel. They were professional if not on the slow side. Somewhat annoying after a long day of traveling to wait an hour whilst alternative lodging could be organized.

HOTEL EL PANAMA

THE HOTEL WAS GREAT.. THE ROOM WAS VERY LARGE AND HAD A GREAT VIEW OF THE CITY SKYLINE.. WE SPENT ALOT OF TIME SITTING AND LOOKING OUT THE HOTEL WINDOW. THE SHOWER WAS AWESOME.. TONS OF HOT WATER... I TOOK TWO SHOWERS A DAY JUST FOR THE HOT WATER..!!! THE LOBBY WAS BEAUTIFUL.. THE STAFF WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND VERY PROFESSIONAL.. I HAVE NEVER HAD SUCH A GREAT TIME AT A HOTEL.. THE POOL WAS AWESOME WITH THE BAR RIGHT NEXT TO IT.. I LOVED STAYING IN THE HOTEL... IT WAS CLOSE TO EVERYTHING.. AND THE ATTENDANTS HELPED WITH THE TAXI'S.. REALLY .. I DIDNT WANT TO COME HOME!!!! THE HOTEL WAS VERY CHILD FRIENDLY.. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL FOR FAMILIES. THE BEDS WERE AWESOME.. HUGE AND COMFORTABLE WITH A NICE FLAT SCREEN ON THE WALL WITH SOME ENGLISH SPEAKING STATIONS VIA CABLE... WATCHED SOME CARTOONS... LOVED IT...!!

I WOULD TAKE THE HOTEL SHUTTLE TO THE CANAL... THE STREETS ARE VERY CONFUSING AND THEY ARE NOT MARKED.. SO YOU GET LOST IN A RENTAL CAR VERY EASILY... BUT I HAD FUN RACING AROUND THE CITY IN MY LITTLE RENTAL.. BUT IF YOU DO NOT LIKE TRAFFIC OR GETTING LOST.. DONT RENT A CAR ... TAKE A TAXI OR TOUR BUS.. :-)

NOt worth the money

I had stayed in this hotel a couple of years ago and it was great. This time the room quality was very poor. They were doing construction to the hotel and stuck us in a small room that was in poor shape. It was dirty and there were holes in the tiles in the bathroom. The A/C worked poorly as well. I do not feel that I would choose this hotel again. The staff is, however, very friendly and helpful with directions and travel plans, as you will find just about anywhere in Panama. The food was good although it is a little pricey for Panama. The hotel itself is safe, but I do not think that I would walk around the area at night

Take one of the hotels taxi and go to the Locks or causeway and eat, either place is well worth the trip.
