Not a 4 star hotel by any means
Definitely not a 4 star hotel or an all inclusive hotel at all. Staff a little friendly at the end, felt like we had to work to get them to smile, wait I thought that is their job! My family and I were there for 8 days and not once did they greet me by name and I had to go to the store to find mint so they could make a Mojito, really? no mint at all in 8 days. I can't believe Melia put their name on this property, we stayed at other Melia's in Mexico and this was not the same experience at all. Love Panama and will probably go back but not at this hotel. I do not recommend this if what you want is to have, a fitness room, a mini bar, an iron in your room, nightly entertainment and an all inclusive experience.

Melia Hotel Colon Vacation
The setting and pool are the best if you want to get away from it all. Outside of some local tourist attractions Colon is not a city you want to visit, very dangerous run down city. Hotel itself is okay, poor a/c barely keeps room cool with extremely dirty filters. Showers/bath area is moldy. Slippery tile flooring. Beds in executive rooms (king size) nice other beds poor. Breakfast buffet included is good; rest of food very high priced and not good cooking. Nothing is close to hotel. Rental car is a must.

Melia Resort Hotel, Colon
The Melia was a great place to stay in a city that has few good/safe hotels. There is quality for your money that includes a great buffet breakfast and many extras that other area hotel don't offer. You do need a rental to really see the area and avoid the high costs of hotel arranged tours. You can't beat the grounds or the lake location.

Short walk from hotel
fishing is great in Gatum Lake, but bring your own equipment so you can fish on your own. The telescopic pole and small reel with good lures is all you need for dock or bank fishing. Lots of bass and this will cost you nothing.

Melia Gatun Lake
Awesome!!... besides being situated in a very nice location by the lake the most impresive was the service and attention to detail provided by the staff and the quality of the food while I was there. Breakfast is included therefore providing even a better value for the stay. Best hotel that I stayed while visiting that country. The only draw back is that the matress was pretty hard for my back.

Huge disapointment
I was very unhappy with the hotel. Although it has a wonderful location and beautiful grounds, it is terribly managed. Upon entering, the lobby smells like sewer gas. The front desk gave another hotel guest a key to my room, so I was surprised when a couple entered my room with their key! The front desk didn't offer so much as an apology but reformatted my key card. The hotel pool was one feature that attracted me when searching online, but when I asked for a towel, the attendant didn't have any. He said he would have some in fifteen minutes, but an hour later there were no towels and I left. The rooms are poorly insulated; I could hear loud noises from the bar directly beneath my room and voices from the room next to me. There were no kayaks or boat trips from the lake-side hotel while I was there. The bathroom ventilation was poor, as I could sometimes smell cigarette smoke from the drain in the bathroom floor and sometimes sewer gas. The bathroom exhaust fan merely made this worse. It took a long time to get anything, from the aforementioned towels to a cup of coffee at breakfast to change from the bar. I plan to write to Melia Hotels about my experience.[...]I cancelled the third night of my stay at Melia Panama Canal. The hotel checked me out. I[...] I hope I can get a refund for the third night and a refund for the room upgrade I selected at the time of purchase. I had upgraded to the "Lake View" when I purchased [...], but the hotel did not put me in the Lake View.

The most relaxing place ever!!!
Most of my time at the hotel I spend relaxing at the pool or by the lake view. This has been the most relaxing and enjoyable hotel I have ever been to. I found the dinner prices to be on the expensive end and the food variety was very limited. I would change the mattress on the bed to be more soft and comfortable. I would really recommend this place for couples and families who need to spend quality, quiet and a delighted time together.! The staff was really pleasant and pleasing
