A comfortable hotel with good service

I really liked the bed comfort, service, and airport transportation. The free wifi, at least for me, was spotty and poor at times. I wish there had been a chair in my room. The lobby is beautiful. Restaurants and a large supermarket are within a short walking distance. I felt safe, respected, and welcomed here.

Standard fare with a hassle

The hotel was just ok. The price was a bit high for what it actually offered. Room size was big, but included a whole extra room of wasted space. Not my taste for decorating, but was consistent with expectations. Breakfast was ok, but nothing memorable. Location, was basically the middle of a drab mid-rise complex. The biggest issue was the problem on checkout. They received a temporary, one use credit card for payment of my bill (which I had prepaid). They said the number wasn't working, but in fact it was a connection issue. I looked at the information, and it was clear that I had already been charged and their business was now with the travel provider as it was their credit card. However, they insisted on holding me there, and even wanted to put a block charge on my credit card. I insisted on having them try again after about an hour and, SURPRISE, it went through on the number they had. Needless to say, I was not happy as it was totally on them. I asked for a complimentary airport shuttle, but what did I get for the hassle....a glass of fruit juice.

it's just ok

The hotel is good enough. It presents itself as above average, but the little things are neglected.

3 day Muscat weekend

The Tulip Inn is a great value. Staff were wonderful and provided late checkout, and lots of help. The breakfast is a good deal as an included item. There are lots of restaurants and a Hypermarket within a couple of blocks. We were able to get a free ride in the hotel bus back to the airport, saving US$20. The Tulip inn is about halfway between the airport and the souk/old Muscat, so anything touristic requires a US$20 taxi ride. Taxis are abundant, though. We were unable to arrange any kind of tour outside of Muscat, a disappointment. Not the hotel's fault, of course, although they didn't seem to have current information on tour operators. If one is confined to Muscat, it's got about a day of tourism opportunities, and after that, it's food and hanging around. The people in Muscat were all extremely friendly, taxis are honest, and we felt totally safe all the time.

Lots of nearby restaurants at 1/3 the cost of the hotel, plus a huge supermarket a couple of blocks away.
