Far beyond expectations

Unfortunately my expectations for this 6* Hotel were maybe too high and I did get disappointed. First of all Front desk staff was not welcoming and don't cared too much about any request. Room was not ready at 17:00. Requesting next day for a late checkout was denied without even checking which room we were in. The word extra mile was never heard by them. They treat guest differently depending on how old you look or not... Location of Hotel is nice, afternoon tea and breakfast where very good. Room is outdated and overall the price is too high seeing to what you get for.

Not a 6 star hotel

Would I stay here again? No! I am not sure who is in charge of ratings but, this hotel is more like a 3.5 star hotel. In this rating I want to try to be as fair as possible. The location is amazing, the beach is clean and breath taking, other than the managment, most of the staff is quite friendly. Unfortunately, the rest of the stay was not up to our standards. The hotel is outdated, the hallway carpets are full of stains and even worse, their are sewage/mold smells throughout the hotel and room. The worst part of the whole stay was the experience I had with the managment. I spoke with management and told them our flights had changed to a later timing and that we would like to extend for another night. The manager on duty, didn't seem to care if we stayed another night or not. I found it quite odd because the hotel seemed to be at 60 occupancy. I explained to her about the rates I found online and that we were hoping we could get a discount. She proceeded to offer me her discount which, turned out to be more expensive than the rate I found online. I couldn't believe it but, I kept my mouth shut. We then proceeded to ask for a late checkout because we had a couples massage booked for 1:30 from the previous day. Please keep in mind these massages cost $200 per person. Our request was again turned down and I had to call up and argue with the managment for them to get the point. It's unfortunate that the managment here or the Shangri La organization do not understand the importance of customer satisfaction. Their goal should be to accomadate the guest with in reason, in hopes that the guest will visit again and spread the word to tall of their friends & family about the wonderful experience. Small things like a late checkout or a discounted rate would go along way! The should especially take into consideration the fact that we already stayed two nights, we checked into the hotel at 9:30 pm and we spent over $500 at the spa and resturants. I hope Shangri La change their practices and train their management the practices of 6 star treatment. This is a free piece of advise from me to the Shangri La Organization. It costs your company a lot less money to retain a customer then to find a new one. Pros: Beautiful beach and setting Nice breakfast Cons: Management does not seem to care if the customer comes back carpets are stained everywhere Hallways and our room smell like sewage or mold We had to fight with management to get an extended check out Currency Exchange rates are high

Lovely week in luxury

I was upgraded from the Al Bandar to the Al Husn and would absolutely recommend this part of the hotel over the Al Waha and the Al Bandar, if you are traveling without children. It is by far nicer. Although expensive, there are a lot of things included in the price (such as a lavish breakfast and complementary drinks between 6 and 7 pm). The infinity pool and beach of the Al Husn are beautiful and the rooms and bathrooms spacious.

Paradise!

I stayed at Al Waha August 2014 and it was perfect. This resort is truly a gem of the GCC. The photos do it no justice. Perfect for beachside rest and relaxation. The breakfast buffet was extensive and delicious.

fantastic holiday

We thoroughly recommend the Al Bandar hotel with its magnificent location, and spent much time a the beach and amazing pool. The Chi spa was beyond relaxing although a little expensive especially with the 17percent tax. Having lived in the middle east for 3 years we found the staff to be the most courteous, friendly, well trained and helpful ever and congratulations must be given to the management for this. Our times at the beach were made more enjoyable by the assistance from the staff who provided towels, cold water and on one occasion... Fresh fruit salad. The buffet breakfast was enough to keep us satisfied till dinner where we recommend the Seafood restaurant Bait al Bahr offered a stunning view and romantic atmosphere, and the Capri court where I tasted the freshest, most delicate calf cheek ravioli. Thankyou for a wonderful late ramadan holiday, and we will be sure to return.

Wonderful experience

From the drive into the hotel. You get a sense of beauty and serenity. The staff are very helpful and courteous . The rooms were clean, beds were comfortable, it made you feel, that you did not have to go anywhere else - just enjoy the hotel. I did not even need to turn on the TV. I just enjoyed the view and peaceful ambience.

Wow!

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Renting a car was the best thing we did. It's a long drive from the airport to the resort...make sure you get good driving directions as the resort is not easy to find. Stop by the Shangrila Hotel airport counter for directions. The town centre of Muscat is about 6 or so miles away from the resort. It was wonderful to drive around town on our own...stopped to take photos along the way.
