We took a 3-nighter (Aug 8-11, 2013) during the Eid holiday following Ramadan. We took the Grand King which turned out to be 1st floor facing the pool courtyard.
The weather was understandably hot, but surprisingly not uncomfortable in the
The room was nice - very comfortable bed/pillows/linens, great shower and amenities, 5-6 english channels on TV (movie/sports/news). Actually watched the PGA Championship albeit 8 time zones away. Every room has a balcony although we were ground level. Room was quiet even though pool and restaurant operations going on. Very happy about our room.
Facilities - top notch fitness gym.
Staff - wonderful and friendly on all accounts from cleaners, front desk, wait staff, everyone was welcoming and wonderful.
Pool - water temperature perfect and plenty of chaises and umbrellas, drink service, swim up bar (although limited in elbow room), towel service, constant sea breeze as it overlooks the gulf.
Restaurants - Why I took off for Amenities is that a few of the restaurants close for the summer and that wasn't made clear. Tuscany was an adequate italian restaurant with good service and expensive, but after 2 nights needed to find somewhere else. Marjan (poolside) closes for the summer, but does operate for lunch and beverage service.
Location - close to airport, not much to do in the sprawling city, so just a nice sea side place without much going on o/s the hotel. Beautiful views of the mountains from the entrance and sea form the back.
Beverage Service - I was a little concerned how things would go during the Eid holiday as personal experience tells its not always predictable whether I can get a beer in middle east countries during holidays (if they aren't already dry to begin with) and as policies can change year to year. There was no problem at this hotel. We did stop at duty free on the way in which turned out wise since drinks are 8-10 USD each from the hotel.
Overall great time and will likely do it again.
Hotel features (5 = best, 1 = worst):
Marjan made nice wok dishes and made them as spicy as you want or don't.
