Nice hotel

The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was basic and clean. The hotel was at the end of the 17 & 18 tram link about 15-20mins ride from the centre. This was an issue when there was maintenance work over the weekend but the replacement bus service was good. The location was a bit of a problem as we had an early return flight so had to catch a night bus into the city centre to then catch the bus to the airport which we just caught in time as the night bus was running late. Oslo being expensive we didn’t want to hire a taxi. The hotel is based around a hospital and office buildings. There were no shops around the hotel but they did sell a few essential items. For breakfast there was an option of cold meats, cereal or hot food. The staff kindly prepared a packed breakfast for us to take for our early flight home. Overall the stay at the hotel was pleasant and the people of Oslo are very friendly.

Excellent Option

I really enjoyed my stay here. It was just for one night, but I felt really comfortable. Oslo is a seriously expensive city and finding anything affordable that is not a hostel is nearly impossible. However, the Gaustad Hotel is clean and minutes away from Oslo University- and a very good value. It is a minimal hotel room, however has all the essentials. The bathroom came with soap and shampoo, and there was a hair dryer that I did not use (Also, a big plus was that the bathroom had heated flooring!). The most important thing for me was that everything was fresh and clean- and it was indeed. It is a hospital-associated hotel, so expect the staff to make you feel welcomed, but not pampered. A downside would be the meal service. It is restricted to certain limited hours and there is definitely no room service. There is no WiFi, but you can access internet through an ethernet cable. I needed to stay in my room past check-out and the staff accommodated me willingly.

Enjoyed my stay but parking is an issue. The staff and rooms were brilliant and very accommodating for short and long visits with transport links literally on the door step. A bit difficult to find at first but the one issue I personally had was parking. You have to park in the hospital car park or walk approx a mile for cheaper parking. All said... I enjoyed this hotel!!! Thank you to the staff.

Hotel at a hospital, but it's not sick!

This hotel is part of the campus of a major hospital. A transit stop is at the hotel, and the fares aren't budget busters for a 20-minute ride to the city center. The breakfast buffet was reasonable, and the afternoon buffet (it closes before a "US" dinner hour) was good. The location is quiet and restful. We saw many sights in Oslo, including the Vigeland Sculpture Gardens, Munch Museum, Akershuis Fortress, Kon-Tiki Museum, FRAM Museum, Volksmuseum, and Viking Ships Museum. It was easy to get to all of them by public transit. One downside: parking is expensive, about $34 US per day!
