Bullseye location
While the fabric of the hotel could do with a little attention, you really can't argue with being on the quayside, opposite Tourist Information and overlooking Bryggen and the fishmarket. Given the ludicrous price of food and drink in Norway, it's difficult to overestimate the value of a darn good inclusive breakfast and somewhere to pop back to for coffee and a relax. The only thing we found annoying was the overly-mobile twin beds, so check with the hotel first if this is going to be a problem. The breakfast room was smart, with a wide selection of buffet continental and English fayre. (Try the local brown goats' cheese). The bar appeared to be lively with a good atmosphere but pricy. There's a shop in the lobby for sandwiches etc. 24/7 and freely available hot drinks.

Sightseeing tip:
Short walk from hotel
Buy a 'Norway in a Nutshell' tour from the tourist office. It includes your fares for trains, (from Central Station 10 mins away), bus and boat, all sequenced for the scenic experience of a lifetime.

Bergen
Clean room, but that's it.
This hotel is Spartan. No room service, two single beds that wouldn't stay together and a view of another building made it an easy decision to leave after one night and stay at a different hotel. Admittedly, we were a couple in love looking for something special. I would have been fine here on a business trip.

Simple, Clean, Good Location
The room was nice, clean and simple. It was a bit small (as an American) but had sufficient amenities. I would recommend the hotel to any friends looking for a nicely located cheap hotel in Bergen

Construction ruined view
Would remain clear of the hotel until the construction is complete. A new building and road being built immediately in front of the hotel ruined the view of the harbor.

Great Location
The hotel was in a great location, easy to walk to all Bergen's attractions. The breakfast buffet was well supplied and offered a large variety of foods. The staff was very helpful and courteous. There was no hairdryer in the bathroom, but was available from the front desk. The room and bathroom were small but clean and utilitarian.

Great spot in Bergen
The Strand Hotel in Bergen is right in the center of things...overlooking the harbor, fish market & the historic waterfront. We were able to walk to everything we wanted to see & to the Central Railway Staion for our Norway in a Nutshell tour. Altho everything in Norway was more expensive than we'd expected, this hotel was a reasonable value. The room was good-sized, the beds comfortable, the (step-up) bathroom adequate. The breakfasts were great & the staff helpful & fluent in English.

Short walk from hotel
If trying to book day trips to the fjords & coastal areas, the two ferry/steamer terminals are on the same side of the water, down from the hotel.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
Très chers entre 50 et 100€ pour un repas normal. C est 2 à 4 fois pour l équivalent en France. Les vêtements sont peu styles, plutôt sport mais beaucoup plus cher. Niveau de vie élevé
