So-so experience

Would not recommend Mon, Jan 5, 2015
Rooms are dated, very noisy. Limited parking at $20 per day, $25/day in adjacent public market. Very poor Internet. Good breakfast. Free access to local gym. Near shopping areas, museum.

Excellent location for business and a holiday in the city...easy walk to all Wellington tourist sites and right across the street from the tourist information centre.

Attractions

Te Papa Museum is tremendous....be sure to allow plenty of time to explore the entire space....combine with a harbour side lunch and make a day of it!

Wellington business/pleasure trip

Would recommend Mon, Oct 24, 2011
We (3 of us) were in Wellington for a conference and added a few days for touring. The drawbacks of the hotel - The room was small but was just enough for us (we had 3 single beds in our room). The walls to the rooms are not sound proof and you can hear what is going on in the next room, through the front door, and in the room above us. The closet was built at an angle which cut off more than half of the space to hang clothing and there were only 2 drawers for a room that is meant for 3 people. The elevators were small as well but efficient use of space seems to be the theme and we never had to wait for a seperate elevator to go to and from our room. They have a washer and dryer on the 5th floor that is available for use up to 10:30pm but you must get the key from the front desk and it took us 3 days to finally get it due to being put on a wait list. Laundry soap is available for purchase at the front desk. The washer fits a standard load of laundry but the dryer (on the highest setting) did not even dry my 'quick dry' clothes, leaving them damp. The great stuff - The hotel is centrally located within walking distance of the museum, shops, and a variety of places to eat. There is also a major pickup location for several tour companies directly across the street from the hotel. The Airport Flyer makes pickup and drops one street up from the hotel and cabs run frequently along the street and/or the front desk can call a cab for you (average cab fares for common runs are posted by the front desk). The hotel staff was very personable and friendly. The facilities were clean at all times and comfortable. You can purchase wireless internet access in the hotel or, if your roaming around, the city offers free hotspots (in 30 minute increments). The central location (a BIG plus), value for your money, and comfort of the hotel are definite draws for me to stay there again.

Dining

Cuba Street is right next to the hotel and offers a variety of restaurants and cafes. Currently the exchange rate from US to NZ dollars is favorable but the cost of eating out can be pricey (NZ$24 to NZ$36 average meal) which washes out the exchange benefit. The food is great though! We were told that tipping was not expected but it seemed that it was to us. One of our tour guides told us that there is no set amount and not more than 10% would be sufficient.

Perfect location, helpful staff

Would recommend Thu, Sep 9, 2010
We were there during the off-season, and the price/value could not be beat. Wonderful location: right near the Information Center, very short walk to shopping, dining, cable car, cafes, everything! The staff was very helpful.

Shopping hint

Just ask the staff for suggestions. They are helpful and knowledgeable.

Accomidation suitable for travelers

Would recommend Tue, Aug 24, 2010
The hotel was strategically located within reach of many activities such as shopping, opera house, cinema, museum, wharf, and bus stop and not a long trip to the ferry if that was needed, which they had a flat rate set up with a cab company if you needed it to the ferry. The stay was suitable for travels since not much time was spent in the room. The room had everything needed.
