Dining tip:
Long walk from hotel
Make your way to Cuba Street or, a little further, a great Asian restaurant called CHOW. Best meal ever, and a lovely walk to get there.

Only criticisms; it took us two
Only criticisms; it took us two days to discover the lift to the lower street entrance. There needs to be information about this in the rooms. The "Gone Green" card is confusing. We would like to have had our room cleaned, but without the towels being changed.

Excellent location for arriving
Excellent location for arriving by car and walking around the city. A bit noisy one night because of party goers but quiet the next. Good breakfasts.

The Hotel was in a great spot.
The Hotel was in a great spot. We had troubles finding it from the train - but that was our fault in asking an Irishman for directions! The shower was great - as was the gym. My only negative comment would be the lack of organisation for the restaurant. We ate in-house and both felt like we were in a hospitality training school - but there was no one in charge. The staff did the best they could - but it was obvious that they didn't really know what they were doing. The food was lovely though.

service was excellent. rooms were
service was excellent. rooms were very clean and we were pleased that we had a view. beds were very comfortable. the staff were courteous and helpful we were only left one shower cap and one soap for two guests. more were provided on request. the lamp and hairdryer were not working but these were fixed on request. it would be good to have information on where we could obtain more milk for tea and coffee. the lift doors shut very quickly -my mother caught her hand in the lift door. the staff provided a cool pack and drink vouchers.

We have stayed at a few hotels
We have stayed at a few hotels around the city and decided the James Cook Hotel this time over the others for the 1pm late check out as well as the free valet carparking and the free breakfast in the morning. Beautiful breakfast in the morning with a chef at the ready to freshly cook my eggs or omlete to just the way I like it - to perfection. The breakfast range at the James Cook leaves other hotel breakfasts for dead. Cannot beat the location if you are in the city for shopping or business the lift takes you to the heart of Lambton Quay CBD. Despite the generous 1pm check out, which we felt would be great to recharge the batteries after long travels, it felt like that we were being hustled out of our room by Housekeeping staff who were eager to enter. We had to put the do not disturb sign on the door to keep them at bay. Despite their eagerness a wonderful stay in a wonderful hotel in the heart of Wellington.
