There are two grades of hotel
There are two grades of hotel rooms, the "older tired" rooms and the newer, " refurbished" rooms, I have stayed in both, the refurbished are so much nicer. When staying here, you "Must" go and listen to the blind piano player playing on the 17th floor in the bar area who has been playine the piano @ this hotel for 30 years. I would recommend this Hotel

I really enjoyed staying at this
I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. The staff were friendly and efficient. It is ideally situated for visiting most areas around Wellington, especially the TSB Arena where we were attending the WOW. The decor in the rooms was very pleasant and the rooms were clean. The airconditioning, however, was rather noisy, so on the 2nd night we opted for turning it off and having the window open. I would definitely stay here again if visiting Wellington

We had a very enjoyable stay during
We had a very enjoyable stay during wow season, very quiet, good service at the Sojourn bar. One gripe - one elevator was out of service the whole time we were there (2 nights), so sometimes we had to wait awhile to catch the lift. Had High Tea at Whitby's Restaurant, very good price, food nice, but staff were not knowledgeable about what we would get (1 stand for two people, not 1 stand per person!), and tea was served in standard crockery, not nice fine bone china teacups, which was disappointing.

Our stay at the James Cook Grand
Our stay at the James Cook Grand Chancellor in Wellington was excellent. The staff were helpfull, friendly and obliging. Of our 17 day stay on the North Island of New Zealand we stayed in 6 different hotels and my husband and I agree that the James Cook was the best by far. Due to the room size, cleanliness, service and pricing. In our future travels we will consider this hotel chain as a our first preference.
