Tired Old Hotel
No free Internet in rooms - cheap! Management does not want to spend any money for guest comfort. Management also does a poor job of maintenance as there was black tape to seal gap between two windows. What a joke. Overall, I would pick a different hotel.

Linen was clean and nice.. But
Linen was clean and nice.. But everything else was extremely dirty.. including carpets.. the windows.. the bathroom... The mirror on the bathroom had cobwebs and stains all over.. so did the bathtub.. the unit which housed the mini fridge was appalling.. chipped, marked and dirty... Stayed in the Superior Studio - King Bed.. Nothing superior at all.. The lobby was smelly.. and they charged $18 for parking..for one night.. unbelievable.. won't live here again.. had good reviews hence stayed.. but won't again.. Not recommended at all.. Forgot to give wake up call on checkout day at 3AM, thank god the mobile had an alarm.. Disappointed.. !!!!!

No good wifi coverage
I am specifically writing this feedback because of my not-so-great experience with wifi coverage, or more specifically lack of it in james cook. The hotel experience was otherwise OK but in certain parts of the hotel wifi coverage is lacking so watch out!

James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor
Rooms are nice, clean and comfortable. Has all the expected amenities except for offering hand lotion as most hotels do which was slightly disappointing since it's dry and windy in Wellington. It seems like a stupid thing to complain about but with travel restrictions on liquids it's something I've come to expect any decent hotel to provide. Location is great; an easy walk to just about every destination in the city.

We couldn't ask for more...
After a horrendous night at the BASE Auckland hotel we were ready to die if we couldn't sleep. The James Cook was a step into quiet luxury and we had two wonderful nights there. Leaving early for the ferry we treated ourselves to a room service breakfast - it was on time, hot, delicious, perfect. Great place, great price!

Long but doable walk to Te Papa, this is an incredible museum that we went to twice to see it all. Got lost coming back once, have a good map with you!
