Needs Upgrade!

Great location, restaurant was closed, staff was not willing to go and get a spoon - she claimed that they did not have any even though tea and coffee were provided in the room!

beautiful view

The room we were in was pretty raw/run down. Threadbare towels, faded bedspreads, stain marks on the comforter. it was the end of winter, but the pool had water in it, but was not clean, not that anyone would be swimming then. The continental breakfast was good. No wifi access in the room we were in, and others as well, since we met some folks also sitting in the lobby to get a signal. hair dryer provided, but it didn't work.

Needs some of that heat INSIDE the hotel

(1) I was given an electronic card to a wrong room; I entered a room of surprised occupants. I was surprised too to see a scantily dressed man to whom I was trying desperately to apologise although I do not think he understood as he appeared to be a tourist who did not to speak English. (2) The receptionist apologised profusely for the mistake and offered me complementary breakfast as compensation - she did not notice that I had already paid for it in the package. (3) There was no hot water in the shower on the night (9PM) of 6th Aug when all I wanted was a hot shower after a long day of work followed by a social function. The male receptionist told me that he will inform the manager. Rotorua was the last place I expected to run out of heat for its hot water! (4) The baked beans, crushed tomatoes and the like which had come directly from cans need pre-heating before they are placed in the food boats with a candle underneath. The food was COLD and the candle can not be expected to heat the food fast enough for those of us who had an early b'fast (7:15am) and did not eat meat. (5) The location is SUPERB! The view of the geothermal acitivity and the geyser could make up for the disappointments if one has more day-light time to enjoy it.

This hotel has the most amazing

This hotel has the most amazing view - the best of any hotel we have ever stayed at. It is such a shame that the management seem to have let things slide - as this hotel could be truly awesome. The room was reasonably priced and came with a complimentary devon tea - although the restruant staff didn't seem to know anything about it. The biggest disappointment was the level of cleanliness. We found some long, lank hairs in the bath (at least they weren't short and curly), discarded beer cans in the abandoned spa pool and dirt under the bottom seats in the sauna. There is a disclaimer from the management in the hotel information pack in each room explaining that due to the sulphur in the area things can appear grubby when in fact they are clean. This wasn't convincing. Staff are friendly and service was good. The rooms are a little run down - worn furniture, loose fittings on the sliding doors on the balcony, rattling fans, but - like I say - the views are stunning.

The view is just stunning!!! It is a 5 star view at an amazing price. Although the decor dated and fittings are quite minimal the room was spacious and functional. Overall the value for money was outstanding.

Excellent Geyser view room. If

Excellent Geyser view room. If staying here don't do the Te Po Maori experience as you will be seeing the same geyser that you get for free from the hotel. Do the Mitai or Tamaki experience instead. The hotel is excellent including the hot pools. Stayed twice and enjoyed it both times.

The service was great, staff were

The service was great, staff were very friendly. The food though wasnt great. We expected better quality especially with the price you had to pay. Was not impressed with the garlic bread. The view from our room balcony was spectacular, overlooking the geyser and mudpool. The rooms could do with a microwave and aircon esp with the geyser next door the smell of sulphur got some getting use to. The spout pool was very nice. But overall we wouldnt mind staying there again but we definitly would not eat there.
