We were first put in room 41 which we told them was too small for all our stuff. They graciously shifted us to room 124 which was larger. We did notice some mold at the bottom of the walls in the shower and the television was rather dated,
reception a little fuzzy and channels very limited. But overall not a bad stay.
Well below our expectations, especially when we paid USD 135 per night. This is a very, very basic run-down hotel, just a notch above a backpacker's hostel. Walls are very thin, and we had a tour bus check in around midnight. We did not sleep
until 3 am. I wish we would have paid $20 more and stayed somewhere else. On the plus side, there is a washer/dryer on site (they charge you $2 for a small sachet of detergent!), the booking office for Fox Glacier tours is next door, and three restaurants are across the road. I realize there is not too much to choose from at Fox Glacier, but you can do better than this place.
Hotel features (5 = best, 1 = worst):
Short drive from hotel
Lake Matheson is a must-do, and only 6 kms from Fox Glacier.
