Great accommodation and near the botanical gardens

The motel was really near the botanical gardens, which were the best in the world. A must-do. We also did the guided cycle tour of the earthquake damage. Well worth it. The motel was a bit noisy from the traffic, being on a main road, but there were lots of restaurants nearby. The accommodation was near perfect, but you had topayfor the Internet.

Good basic accommodation

We had a clean quiet suite with all the amenities we needed, like a fridge and a microwave. The cost was about what a single room in a basic motel would be, so it was very good value for the money. Staff were very friendly and helpful. They do take their checkout time quite seriously, so be prepared to leave then!

Himawari Japanese Restaurant, a short walk down the street toward the Windmill Centre (at 184 Clarence St). Every dish we tried was truly excellent -- I particularly enjoyed the Chicken Katsu Set -- and all that for a price of $10-$18 for main courses.

Argyle on the Park, Christchurch, Dec 2012

The managers of Argyle on the Park were friendly and courteous. They arranged free transport to the railway station for our Tranzalpine ride to Greymouth and back. Our room had living / dining/ kitchen, with stove top and oven, hot water pot for tea, and refrigerator, and separate bedroom, with second bed in front room. Very convenient to bus and ChChcentral. Right on west edge of Hagley Park, with good places to eat (Nando's) and broad hiking / biking trails. We received brand new leather couch and chair on second day. Very cozy and comfy.

Great location, very welcoming!

We had great service even before we checked in! We called for directions from outside the city, got very easy directions and found our way without difficulty. The gentleman who checked us in personally escorted us to our room. Like so many places in New Zealand we were offered a complimentary bottle of milk for our tea. I love this civilized country !!!! The room is literally across the street from the large city park and sports fields. It is a beautiful location and easy walking distance to Christchurch core and shopping. Can't wait to go back!!!

Nice affordable and well equiped

We stayed overnight prior to our flight out of New Zealand. The room had all the conveniences of home. The owners were very nice and accommodating and provided a lot of information about the neighbouring area and knew about all the flight cancellations for airlines as there was an eruption in Chile at the time. We enjoyed the walking distance to the restaurants and bars and the proximity to the parks.
