Great hotel if the price is right
We got this hotel for a very reasonable price (<$100US per night) in the off season using [...] and were really really pleased. The location is great, keeping you near to the seafront (<15min walk) and offering great views. The staff were very very helpful and friendly, allowing us to check in quite early, helping us set up a rental car, recommending activities, and helping set up airport transfers. The room was spacious, especially the bathroom which offered a large tub as well as a separate glass shower.I'm hesitant to speculate about my review if I were paying normal peak-season prices for this hotel, but I suspect that I'd be far more critical of small details (e.g. room service was amazingly expensive).

Short drive from hotel
One thing that was helpful for us to keep in mind on our trip (which was leisure based) was that people don't go to New Zealand to see Auckland,they go to see the countryside and the amazing geography. As a city, it's okay, but it's a not particularly exciting destination. We used it as a base of operation while exploring the area and were happy.

Best place to say. When I arrived
Best place to say. When I arrived in Auckland I stayed at another hotel, and stayed here before leaving. Wished I had just stayed here the whole time. Everything is good, there is no bad. Am coming back for Ironmand 2011 and will definitely stay here.

SkiCity in Auckland
Overall it was a great hotel with many options of restraurants and activities. The bars were nice and quiet and enjoyable. The location could not be beat -- perfect spot! Nothing too special to share about the service -- but I didn't ask for much... so I don't think that is reflective of anything.

A very nice hotel
The Hotel is centrally located and right in the thick of Auckalnd activities. It is attached to a casino and the Sky Tower and other activities all under one large roof. The rooms were clean, well appointed and of average size, with a nice view of the city. Service was first rate, friendly and helpful. The hotel is within easy driving distance of the Auckland Zoo, the Aucklnd Museum, shopping theatre, etc. Plenty of dining at all levels.

Be sure to get careful, specific directions if you are driving. Driving in Auckland is a contact sport and the streets are difficult to negotiate.

I had to ring for the champagne
I had to ring for the champagne and platter to be delivered to the room (was meant to be in the room waiting when i arrived with my girlfriend)... also a courier was meant to be arriving for her and we advised the reception to call us immediatly, we woke at 2am and had not received a call, upon calling reception they told us that it had arrived a long time ago???

Skycity Grand
This was a business trip and the location was great -next to the convention center and in the middle of town. The hotel room was large and had a king bed and confortable sofa.

This hotel portrays itself as a 5 star hotel. I would say that stained carpet, missing lightbulbs, and stained and torn lampshades are not 5 star status. Sure offer reduced room rates but make sure powple lknow it will not be in 5 star rooms. I will not stay here again.
