Mercure Auckland

This hotel has many problems with it. first they put 2 adults in a room meant for one person and lied telling me that it was the correct room. After I insisted they then moved me to a room with the door lock not completely on. Because they were very slow, I corrected it with a plastic knife. The air from the smoking section of the hotel circulates to the non smoking rooms so you wake up with that nice tickle in your throat. i would not stay here again.

Mercure was a great home base for exploring Auckland and beyond (though on a second trip we might stay a little farther outside of downtown as it's quite touristy). The hotel was generally fine: clean, central location, lovely view and good housekeeping. However, there wasn't a concierge (that we ever saw) and the desk staff seemed aloof and perhaps a bit slow. All fine if you know your way about or are there for business, but if you like to ask staff little things like the best place nearby to grab a drink or breakfast -- or expect any level of welcome when you walk in the lobby -- you may find the Mercure lacking.

Friendly staff. Hotel room was decent. The location was perfect. Close to the ferry and close to Queen street where all the food places and action is. Great location.

We needed a hotel for one night while in transit, arrived late and left early. Room sufficed, although I was disappointed that there was no conditioner, only conditioning shampoo. The rooms are ok but dated and a bit dingy. Great location for the price if you are staying in town as it's in the heart of things. Would not recommend late night room service. Friendly but food was awful.

Perfect location and the room was clean. Staff was friendly. My only complaint was that I had asked for a room away from the elevator and was put directly across from the bank of guest elevators and next to the staff elevator. I was awake all night long to the "whir" of elevators going up and down. It was VERY noisy. I had asked earlier in the day (2:00 pm) to be moved and they said there was no other room available. I found that hard to believe so early in the day. Would only recommend this hotel is able to be away from elevators. I was able to walk one block to most anything- food, ferry, shopping.

We asked for a late checkout and they were happy to extend checkout at no additional charge to noon. Over all it was a good experience at value for money accommodation.

The gym facility is kind of a joke. The "free" wi-fi is even a bigger joke. You have to stay in the lobby to use it and you only get about 30 minutes access, then it cuts you off unless you start paying. Great views. It is an older hotel with new elevators installed in the middle of each floor surrounded by all the rooms. I could constantly here the elevators going up and down in my room so if I asked if another room was available that didn't get the noise. They said that all the rooms had the same elevator noise!

The Mercure was a very conveniently located hotel and our room accommodations adequate but nothing special. The dining facilites were first class. We did find the staff to be outstanding and most helpful in attending to our baggage needs (and storage) and making us feel very welcome. Since we were there just overnight, we took advantage of the city bus (stop located right outside the hotel door) that goes around the city. There is also a free bus whiose stop is also just outside the door.

Hotel gave us a much appreciated early check-in with our Obitz booking and a room with a wonderful view. Perfect location for ferry and bus transit. Major dining areas within short walk. Hotel staff very helpful. Hotel in process of upgrading facilities. Only drawback--no in-room safe.

Great location next to the water for the ferries and access to Queen St. The hotel came to around $60 for the night, but the valet parking at $30NZ was the only griping point - too expensive, but we didnt have time to research better. Overall good.
