Very bad service!
I stayed there for 3 days. very bad service, the korean or taiwanese lady was the worst receiptionist ever!!!

Disgusting
This was the honeymoon trip we will never forget. the hotel was dirty and hostel type sparse. I got a rash from the bedding and when I asked to have sheets changed they refused. Washed our own. We checked out and got a much nicer hotel across the street. The trip was a wedding present and we were embarrassed to tell the gift giver about our experience.

Great Location
The hotel was within walking distance of everything: Sky City, Waterfront, Shopping, Restaurants. Others have made comment about being in seedy neighborhood. Never felt that was true and walked back to hotel at night without any problem. Room was very clean and comfortable.

My wife and I were surprised that
My wife and I were surprised that this hotel achieved 4 star status. The room had no ironing board, it was very small, it had only single beds and no bath. The bath room had an extreme shortage of space for guest's personal things. The air conditioning was inadequate. There was no room service. On our only visit to the bar there was no white wine available. The bar and restaurant lacked a welcoming atmosphere and were very poorly furnished and fitted out. We would not recommend the Auckland City Hotel Hobson to anybody.

well-located hotel
The hotel was clean and quiet. The location is very good, a short walk to the waterfront and close to restaurants, bus stops, and the sky tower.

Overall the 'Hobson' was what
Overall the 'Hobson' was what I expected. The staff were great and very polite and the new restaurant on the ground floor is excellent with the staff doing their best to make sure everything was as it should have been. Try the chicken satay for starters...yummy. My two brick bats however are that the shower stall in my room needed a really good clean and one half (?) of the king bed was very sad and flat. I spent my nights climbing over to the 'good' side and then falling back into the hole. Fix these two things, something I never even think about in other hotels, and my review would be better. The house staff were very good and I appreciated their attention...hence the tip.

The room was clean and had everything needed for a pleasant stay. The in house parking was not acceptable due to not enough parks and having to move the vehicle for other guest to come and go.A fee was charged which surprised me. First time I have ever paid for parking.Would have liked drinking choc included and a shower cap.Overall not to bad.

As we stayed on the 1st floor
As we stayed on the 1st floor we had to use the stairwell. We found the carpert quite grubby and in need of a clean. We also so had to ring to reception and ask fer a jug and shower caps as there wasnt one in our room. Also lights missing fom the ceiling. Only one light working over the bed. Found that hard going as the person on reception didnt understand English very well. Front of house personal should also be smiling which we founf this not to be that case. Apart from that we had a nice stay.
