Nice Stay
We had a beautiful beach view. It was busy during the day when the cruise ships came in, but quite at night. My wife loves to shop and people watch so it was a great area for us. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Ok
The place is ok, at night I was Very Leary of walking as there are no lights no stores open and shady people walking..I never even stayed at their beach as I went else well, lots of mosquitos in hallway and elevator. But to their credit, their is no real 5 star Hotels in St Martin.

Great experience!
I can not believe the great experience we had at Holland House. Kudos to the staff for making it a pleasure. Kizzi at the front desk was wonderful. I stubbed my toe and she was up in my room cleaning and bandaging it immediately. Everyday she would call the room and have me come down and clean it. She brought in a nail tech to repair it before we left. I have never had such an experience.

The hotel bar is good for relaxing and having a few drinks at night. It's not a late night area. Several other spots for drinks on the boardwalk.

Nice Beach, But!
Got a cab at airport, driver frustrated that we were going to what he called 'crowded and blocked off area due to all of the cruise ships in harbor" He said he might have to drop us off near by. Finally got to hotel, and found THEY HAD NO RECORD OF OUR RESERVATION. They were very unsympathetic, having us wait for about 1 hour before they decided to let us stay anyway. Next two days we were asked when we were leaving. Hotel restaurant staff reluctant to let us charge to room and house service confused saying we were suppose to be checked out. Restaurant service was painfully slow. Beach was nice

Somehow, check with the hotel prior to going there to make certain you have a confirmed reservation. We had one off email but hotel didn't have it.

Nice hotel, good location
We had a nice stay at the hotel, and we stayed in one of the suites. The only reason we got this room however was because we were first told the hotel was overbooked and they had to place us in a street view room, which was not one of the updated rooms. The first room was not what we paid for and initially they were not going to do anything about it. The next morning another staff member was very accommodating and apologetic and upgraded our room and gave us a bottle of wine. Had we not stayed in that suite, our review would have probably been lower. Overall the staff was nice, location was good to be near the shops and boardwalk, and the room was comfortable and clean.

Loved the Holland House
We had one of the mini suites facing the beach and we truly enjoyed every minute. No complaints. Housekeeping, front desk service, Bar service (especially) and dining room service all excellent! Good food and not so small bar treats/appetizers were also good. Rented a car for 3 of our 8 days, which was just the right amount for us to see the numerous island beaches, brunch in Marigot and enjoy cocktails a couple of times on Orient Beach. I read many reviews before going that said don't rent a car. They were very wrong! It was easy, we saw a lot more of the island and it was an adventure we'd do again in a minute. The front desk helped us rent a car from a very reliable agency (Coastal). The car was delivered to the front door of the hotel (really easy). Parking is not real close, so we ended up parking near the salt pond about a 5 minute walk, but the great weather and our need for a little exercise worked well for us after being out dining, shopping or beaching for the day in another part of the island. I will go with a Jeep Wrangler next time. We went off the beaten path a few times exploring and the small car we had did fine, but I'd like the flexibility a 4 wheeler provides when you go off of the main roads. Not a complaint, just a preference for our next trip, which I hope is soon. I would not recommend a scooter, Vesper bike for getting around the island, especially if you're not well acquainted with the roads and driving style there. That would be a little more challenging than say in Bermuda. Absolutely gorgeous place to relax, explore and enjoy.

From the Holland House Hotel in Philipsburg you walk about 8-10 minutes to the Chesterfield. Great seafood and breakfasts and very pleasant service. Atmosphere is very relaxed looking out on the bay and again, the food was great.

Great Vacation
We recently stayed at Holland House for 4 nights. Our stay was very enjoyable. All staff members were friendly, helpful and courteous. We had a beachfront room and the balcony was perfect for people watching and just relaxing. The location of the hotel is great with many shops and restaurants nearby. The hotel is older and is not a "fancy" resort type but it is very well maintained and clean.

Great In-town location
While not particularly imposing from Front Street, this property is very nice and a great value. The rooms are reasonably spacious and well-appointed. We happend to be there during the annual Heinekin Regatta, which can be quite boisterous (the hotel hosted a major Regatta-related function)however we never heard any of the partying in our room, which we thought was a great commentary on the acoustics. The hotal did provide complimentary internet (which not all St. Maartin hotels do) but the speed will not knock you over and the only laptop that could get a signal in the room had a long-range wi-fi antenna. (Our other laptop had no problem with the signal in the Lobby - but the speed was no better.) We went to the hotel restaurant for Breakfast which was good and not unreasonable. There are a good selection of other restaurants in close walking distance if you want something more lively or more moderate. The hotel is reasonably close to Bobby's Marina, which is the depoarture point for the Great Bay Ferry. The Front Street location is very close to much of the Phillipsburg shopping, where we found several great buys. Our bottom line - we think we are reasonably particular and would definately stay here again.

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
Some of the "better" stores have left town - either for Marigot on the French side or Gustavia in St. Barts, so if you have a particular store in mind check before you go. We did find the merchants to be quite flexible on price - within limits. We were advised that knock-offs are a problem, so be careful if you are not in a "branded" store - our sense was taht many knock-offs are priced like the genuine article.

Holland House
It depends on what you are looking for in a hotel. The location was great if you want to be right in the middle of the shopping district. So it was nice that there was the shopping district in front of the hotel and a nice beach at the back of the hotel with a boardwalk with places to eat, drink and shops. When at the beach, people came along trying to sell you stuff but they were respectful when you said no thank you they just kept going. The housekeeping staff and front desk staff were great. My complaints about the hotel was that if you have a room on the street-side, expect to be woken up about 4:30 or 5:00 in the morning when the trash collectors come. It can be very noisy!!! I do not know if this was a problem on the beach side of the hotel. Also, we had rented a car and the only parking available was in a lot which was about a 15 minute walk from the hotel. If I had known about this, I probably would not have stayed there as a car was important to us. Also, the TV channel selection was poor.
