Private club atmosphere on Orient Bay in French St. Martin
Situated on the French side of St Martin, on a secluded stretch of Orient Bay, the 65-room Esmeralda Resort offers the quiet atmosphere of a private club. The hotel features Spanish tile-roofed villas in a tropical garden setting. Sixty-five rooms and suites are spread out amid 18 villas, nestled within the bougainvillea, hibiscus, and palm trees. Each villa has its own private pool, so guests can enjoy a quiet dip.

Very Enjoyable Vacation
The location was perfect! Water pressure is an issue during most days but it did not ruin our trip. I think it is an island thing not so much an Esmeralda thing. The hotel should charge a little extra and provide a better breakfast for the guests. We will go back !!!!

The food at Orient Village next to Esmeralda is much better than we expected. Very nice and family friendly!

3rd time to Esmeralda
The first room they gave us was not great and we asked for another, which was fine. Some of the rooms have not been renovated and the second one had been painted and the room was representative of what we had stayed in previously. Breakfast was included (continental) and the staff was the weakest in morning. Astrolabe at night was very nice. We love this resort. It is in a great area (Orient Beach), and accessible to mostly everything easily. We have also stayed in Anse Marcel (Le Meridian), The Beach Club, and The Westin. The Westin is a great resort, but ridiculous to get to, unbelievable hills, (I would stay there again.) Anse Marcel is so isolated, when we stayed there the rain washed out the roads- incredibly bad roads over hair pin turns.(would not go over that hill again for anything) Beach Club is Blah. We have always used rental cars and I am not trying to seem that I am afraid to drive here. Driving on the island is not for the faint of heart. Back to Esmeralda- there have been a lot of reports about theft in rooms and the safe in the room. NONE on our trips. That doesn't mean that we leave stuff around, we are very careful. My wife read so many reviews about this, prior to our trip that I was pretty upset. Some reviews said that the power box was disabled outside to get into the safe in the room. Baloney!! the safe has its own power source (battery) and is fine. We stayed in room 505-next to Astrolabe- so it was right out in the open. There are also more security as you enter the Orient Beach area now. The security gate that was at Esmeralda was stopped because of the added security before you get off the main road. No one spoke of any problems while we were there. At the beach we used Emeralda's chairs and umbrella one time and other days we went further away. Satellite TV was upgraded- now they have all the American channels Will we stay here again-yes, but not next time. After three visits here it's time to try somewhere else. Maybe a time share on Little Bay.

Best Beach Location but room was low end
Esmeralda definitely had the best beach location - there is a wind but frankly, if there wasn't it would have been way too hot. The restaurant (L'Astrolabe) was the best one we went to - we spent a lot of time in Grande Case for dinner too but our hotel was terrific. Our room was the only downside of our trip. The bathroom and kitchenette needed serious upgrading. The AC worked fine and the ceilings were gorgeous (nice beams) but don't expect a luxurious room at all. This was basically a room I would have expected at an old club med. Overall, I'd come back just because of the beach location.

Esmeralda Resort
The Hotel and the Coco Beach bar/ and grill was great. I would definitely go back there. The only problem area was their L'Astrolobe (sp?) restaurant which was terrible. The worst and most expensive lobster I have ever had. What they call live music is laughable. The atmosphere was real stuffy The Hotel was good and clean. Coco beach bar which has a free umbrella and chairs daily for guests.It also had very good food and drink. The location of the resort was ideal, close enough to Grand Case and Marigold and yet nice and quiet. Relaxed atmosphere was just what we wanted.

Don't bother with Dinner at the main restaurant l'Astrolobe . Worst Lostbster dinner I have ever had. Atmosphere is way too stuffy. Entertainment is terrible. Coco beach bar food is great and the drinks are good stick with them or go to Grand Case for food.

Nice, confortable not luxurious
Nice location and surroundings. Very comfortable but not luxurious. The seaside can be very windy. Swimming pool not individual as by the site but for every 03 bungalows.Anyway, we could get it almost for ourselves all time. Good service..but more regular maitenance is needed. Excellent ambience and food at Astrolabe restaurant

Incredible location & beach!
Great time and worth renting a car for the week - we explored the island, Philipsburg (great jewels), Marigot very pretty, and our favorite - Grand Cass with 42 awesome restaurants. Also joined a gym and got in terrific cardio every day - GymFit is new and convenient; very close to Esmeralda.

Best restaurant in Grand Cass - la Villa; we ate there three times and each meal was exquisite; terrific people too.
