Great Hotel Overall

My friends and I spent three nights at the Hem Hotel and we were pleasantly surprised at the overall place. I had gotten two quads for amazing prices (half as much as HOSTELs) so I wasn't expecting amazing rooms. However, what we recieved far succeeded the low expectations. the rooms were nice and clean, and fairly spacious. The location is not bad at all...just outskirts of the city where it's quiet and nice neighborhood (about one minute walk to the tram and 10 minute tram ride to the center of the city). Overall highly recommend.

it was great

I WAS THERE FOR A SWIM MEET IN EINDHOVEN. THEY FOUND OUT WHERE IT WAS ABOUT THREE MONTHS PRIOR, SO I DIDN'T SPEND TO MUCH TIME IN THE HOTEL. YOU WOULDN'T LET ME CHANGE LOCATION, SO I SPENT ONLY THE TIME TO SLEEP FROM 1100 AT NIGHT TIL 0530 IN THE MORNING. I HAD TO BE IN EINDHOVEN BY 0900 EACH MORNING. MY PREVIOUS TRIP WAS GREAT AND THIS ONE COULD'VE BEEN BETTER BUT I SPENT TO MUCH TIME WORRYING ABOUT TRAM, BUS AND TRAIN SCHEDULES.

Poor Hotel

Rooms very bad with exposed plumbing in the shower, no airconditioning, bad TV. Charged for early check in 30 Euro even though rooms were available. Very rude registration staff. This is just a horrible hotel for any tourist.

Very dissapointed

We asked for new pillows because all the pillows are dirty and stained. They didn't have any. The towels are an off white colour. It was like a huge dormitory, with noise from others closing doors all night and talking. There was no window that you could open, only noisy air conditioning, hence there was a bad smell in the room. The shower heads need modernizing with hand held ones in some rooms. The hotel needs refurbishing. There is a parking charge of 12.50 euro per 24 hours, parking is expensive on the street. There is a supermarket just under the viaduct which is 10 euro cents per hour, if you want to feed the meter hourly. Also, breakfast is expensive for $14 euro p/p. I overheard, the day we checked in, someone had paid Euro$7 p/n less than us for a special of 3 nights. We were there for 3 nights but weren't offered the special. There staff are not very informative about the area, eg closest laundromat. We were asked to pay a City tax of 6 euro but on our reservation printout it said 5.52 euro. Then 2 young woman came in and they were charged 20 euro. Big Rip Off.

Could be better

Bicycle rentals are expensive, hotel restaurant is expensive. Staff are not well versed in communicating the conditions surrounding the bicycle rentals. The window was leaking, bed was broken, sheets were too short for the bed, bicycles were poorly maintained. The hotel was non smoking, but reeked of cigarette smoke.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

For food walk down the block to the Albert Heijn and by it there. If you want to dine at a restaurant, take the tram to Amsterdam Centrum, or take a 10 minute walk down to the round about and there are a few restaurants there.

Hem hotel rateing

The hem is about a 15 min. cab ride from amsterdam central. Be careful when takeing cabs they will try to over charge you. 15-20 euros is good.Aside from being a little away from the entertainment center, this is a great hotel, for the price.Tell the hotels barmaid [...], David says hello.

A good visit

The Hem Hotel is one block from the number 2 tram that goes to central station. There are two grocery stores, a bakery and some restaurants within 100 yards of the hotel. Rembrandt Park and Vondel Park are large parks within a half hour walk. My room was quiet and clean and the reception desk staff were very nice. I stayed at Hem Hotel for nine days and I would stay there again on a future trip.

Just OK

The hotel is not on a major street. There were four table lamps in the room and two of them were missing a light bulb. The shower is right on the bathroom floor (expect to flood the bathroom) and the walls of the shower compartment (between the bathroom and the rest of the room) are semi-transparent. Parking will cost you extra, but not too much. This hotel is good if you get a room at a very cheap price.

Time-saving tip: Not Applicable

There's a tram and a night bus that can take you to the city center and back. When you check into the hotel, they give you a card that tells you what tram/bus you need to take to what stop to get to the hotel, and on the back of the card, there's a number to call a taxi.
