Endless winter
Location, location, location.
Easily walkable to major areas of interest: canals, xxx, museums, palace, anne frank, park, etc. Very near to Central Station so can take train from airport and then 10 min walk to hotel. It's not a fancy hotel but it is a good staging area to visit points of interest.

Will never stay anywhere else
The hotel is close to the train station. Take the train for 4Euros or a taxi like I did for 75 Euros. Close to the red light district and several coffee shops. Walking distance to Van Gogh, Bols (booze), Heinecken, and Anne Frank house. Lots of food options, and the breakfast was included with my rate and it was top notch. This hotel is one block from their shopping street. Everyone speaks perfect English and is not snobish about it like other places in Europe.

Nice and central hotel in Amsterdam
I stayed only one night to visit Amsterdam before a meeting in Leiden. The hotel was nice and clean, very central, less than 10 minutes walking from Central Station and perfect to visit the downtown and go shopping in the area. The staff was nice and helpful; maybe it could have been better without that music in the corridors until night.

Amsterdam Hotel - The Convent Hotel
I had only 3 days in Amsterdam. One day was reserved for meeting up with a friend. The other days I did organized touring, which was fantastic. The Canal tour, City tour, Vollendam and Maarkan Island. It gave me a taste of Amsterdam to want to return. Did not do any museums as it was high season and the lines were tremendously long. You can pay a bit more and purchase your admission tickets through the local tour companys, which will get you to the fastrack line and avoid the long lines to get in. But did not do it as time to do other things were important to me and I made my decision for a return visit.

Amsterdam is a very walkable city. After you do the Canal and city tour, it will give you a over perspective of where everything is located. It seems that each attraction was a 5, 10 or 15 minute walk from each other.

Convent Hotel, Amsterdam
This hotel was very modern, clean, and convenient. It is an easy 3 blocks walk from the central train station, and sits in a very nice and safe neighborhood right in the middle of the city. Most of the sights and culture one would want to see are a short walk from the hotel, and a tram runs past for trips farther from the city center. The windows have double glass to reduce sound, and the rooms are air conditioned. I found it to be extremely luxurious and modern on the inside, and beautifully historic on the outside! Like most European hotels, it would not meet American ADA standards, but that wasn't an issue for me.
