Wonderful customer service and perfect location
We arrived at the hotel at 0900 after a two week river cruise. Even though check in time wasn't until 2pm they had rooms ready for us. We stayed in a King deluxe and it was large and clean. There was even a full size bathtub. The tub was slick with no vinyl mat to place in it but we used a bath towel on the bottom of the tub and that took care of that. The room was warm and the window was locked but a call to the desk had someone up right away to unlock it. The bar is a great place to wind down for a drink or a quick bite. Every one we came in contact with from the maid to the front desk were helpful and friendly. The location is perfect being just steps from Dom Square and Magna Plaza shopping area. We walked to most locations and took the bus right outside the front door to the farther museums. We will definitely stay there again should we return to Amsterdam.

Short walk from hotel
Across the street and to the left is the Die Port Van Cleeve hotel that has a restaurant known for it's numbered steaks. For around 29 euros we each had a steak with salad, roll, fries and vegetables. The chef even threw in an appetizer. The steaks were perfect and the atmosphere relaxing.

Amsterdam Weekend
Spent a pre Christmas weekend here with my wife. Great location; 7-10 minute walk from the train station and even closer to Dam Square. Tram stop in front of hotel. Clean rooms and friendly staff. Would stay here again.

Ideal location
Welcome excellent and efficient and friendly concierge. Return booking on the shuttle bus on time, so no worries about late arrival at the airport. Were offered a room upgrade for another 25 euros per night, but would only have got a little more space. We were told we had a quiet room on the side, but dust bins were moved down the alley under our window at 6:00 am every morning except Sunday, then the road cleaner truck came along, then the actual dustcart, so be prepared for this. Take your hair dryer, ladies, as the one in the bathroom is useless and they do not have any others to loan to you. The lighting in the bedroom is dim, with no centre light. Rooms are ok, although the bed is not as great as everyone raves about,as you tend to roll to the edge! No evening restaurant, but plenty of choice close by. Go nextdoor to have your breakfast, for about 6 euros,so not pay 22 euros each in the hotel! Main advantage of this hotel is location, location, location. If you want to be able to walk to Ann Frank's House, the Hop on Hop off bus, canal tour, Dam square and shops, this is the hotel for you. Trams to Riksmuseum and Van Gogh stop outside.

Turn right outside the hotel and after a short walk turn up the first alley way and at the top, on the left, have the best chips you will ever taste!

The Convent Hotel was wonderful to stay at. The location puts you in the oldest part of town; within walking distance of many fun things to see & do. The restauraunt was a bit stuffy or uptight or formal for me. Amsterdam is a wonderful place to see. & the Covent made it even better.

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
Take the small alleyways. They'll lead you to foot traffic only streets, shopping. The main drags are full of cars, bikes, busses, trains & boats going everywhichway.... you shoulsd see those, too; but, for a breather, take the small alleyways.

Great Location
This hotel is not fancy but a nice, comfortable hotel in a very convenient location. You can walk to the train station, to the Frank House, to the Red Light District, to shopping and lots of nice resturants. The room is a nice size and has a comfortable bed. The staff was friendly and helpful as we were trying to find out way around. We stayed two nights and I recommend this location for people who want to be in the middle of Amsterdam and don't want to pay for a high-end hotel.

The Convent Hotel
This hotel was okay, nice location near Dam Square. The room was clean and pleasant, but extremely SMALL! My friend and I had no room to manuevre our stuff, let alone find room for our bodies! I chose it because I thought it would be like the Convent Hotel I stayed at in Rome--run by Nuns, Sisters who opened their Convent to out of town guests. Not so in Amsterdam!
