nh hotel krasnapolsky
i didn't need many things. I was looking for a location close to the central metro station. customer service was good. it would have been nice to have been able to purchase a metro ticket to the airport when i checked out. it was available at 7 am. i checked out at 5:30 am.

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
it would have been able to have been recommended a reasonably cheap restaurant, and a shoping area. at the same time, i was under time constraints. I had to be at a specific tour at a specific time. i do not know how practical that would have been. maybe if i received an easy name for a restaurant, and a shopping area would have been good. this way, the name of both would be in my head when i recognize both places. that seems reasonable.

excellent in every way,location location
Enjoyed A one weeks stay at Krasnapolsky. Wonderful location in centre on Dam square. Staff very helpful atmosphere excellent. The only down side is the cost of eating there, very expensive. We would have liked to eat more often there but it was too expensive. All in all a wonderful experience.

Excellent location right in dam
Excellent location right in dam square, room was overlooking a busy street which meant a good bit of noise at night time. Minibar was full with no space to put any items of your own. Not really a 5 star hotel but rather a 4 star in a good location.

Great location, quiet, and comfortable
Great location, very nice rooms, and very (amazingly) quiet. They give you 30min free Internet (wireless) in the lobby or you can pay 18 Euros for 24 hours access in the room. Lots of pot smokers and general activity in Dam Square outside of the front of the hotel and the Red Light District is just a block or two from the back of the hotel. Lots of food and shopping nearby. Centraal train station is a 10 minute walk (take Damrak street).

Nice place, great location, wear & tear
I stayed for almost a week at the Krasnapolsky at the beginning of August, starting with Gay Pride weekend. The hotel was packed, as was Amsterdam. The hotel staff were courteous and professional, but there were so many guests that even simple requests involved a 5-20 minute wait. Once you got to the desk, staff were very attentive. The hotel is in a great location off the Dam. The rooms I stayed in were quiet and pleasant, though small. The hotel as a whole may be 5-star, though I would give it 4. Some of the rooms really are 3.5 stars--quite pleasant but not a 5-star experience. The breakfast buffet is very nice. The hotel rents bikes, but they charge more than the going rate. I asked for a more in-depth guide to events than the regular tourist material, and two concierge staff had no idea what to suggest. When I showed one of them TimeOut Amsterdam, she was genuinely surprised. The overall impression was that the hotel was used to dealing with masses of guests, and so the personal touch is not there. Again, perfectly nice, but not 5 stars.

Shame about our problem.
We had a problem, when my wife had a jacket go missing from the room. We thought this could have been picked up accidental when cleaning, either sheets or towels thrown over it and taken out, we suggested this to the hotel, they came back to us and said this was not the case, and that was the end of the matter for them. As this was identified the evening prior to us leaving early next morning, we did not have chance to conclude with the hotel. Other than this we had no other issues with the hotel at all.
