Amsterdam was really great. The Hotel Krasnapolsky was located in the heart of the city. Right down the street from the ... Central Station and the rest of Europe. The Winter Gardens breakfast buffet was wonderful and beautiful. Will be saying there again and again.

This hotel was conveniently located, but upon arrival it was dirty, very small and a/c didn't work. We tried to upgrade at the ... time, but were told nothing was available. My travel agent called corporate in Texas, who were very helpful in getting a paid upgrade. This was ok, but I think they should have given us a complementary upgrade due to all problems with room. The room we paid upgrade for was at least up to standards.

Don't miss the 9 Streets area. The Art Gallery area is near. Visit Annet Gelink Galley for important contemporary Art. Der Waag is a great restaurant. Also Amsterdam if you have kids but it is not within walking distance.

Great Location - Nice Team
Traveling Exec Aug 31, 2009
Wonderful central location - directly on Dam Square. Could walk to meals, shopping, and many attractions - quick walk to the ... train as well. The hotel is very old and they do their best to maintain. Front desk service is slow, but they are very gracious once you have their attention. I would say this a 4-Star not a 5-Star hotel. The concierge staff is very helpful. It is a noisy location - they can't do anything about that - but, also fun and bustling.

Extraordinary stuff was too expensive
Budgeting Jul 14, 2009
Great view of the square and queen's castle. Nice staff and rooms. Beautiful banquet hall and dining room. 2 coffe's at ... the resturaunt were 14 Euros. It came with chocolates and cookies but I just wanted a place to buy 2 cups of coffee. Instant was available free in the room so we enjoyed that a bit but we found a place around the courner in the crowded city to get a nice cup. The buffets were too expensive. We couldn't afford it. We found a nice sub shop and a nice place in the city close by. The alley that separates the 2 areas of the hotel is traveled by those commuting from the red light district so we didn't feel safe going from the main building to the next, but we felt like if we waited till the coast was clear that we were okay. So good and bad to it but it was a nice trip.

The train station is about 10 minutes walk or less than 5 on a tram that is cheap. The train gets you to the airport for 4.5 Euro each. the taxi is 40 Euro and a shuttle is 12 Euro's per person so that's a big savings.

Excellent Location to catch tram or can walk to many sites (i.e., Ann Frank House, Red Light District, Flower Garden) Staff ... very eager to please and make your stay positive. Great grocery and wine store behind Palace. Museums are a short tram ride away. Argentine steak restaurants are within walking distance and french fries with mayonnaise are a must try.

Much better than the reviews suggested
Woman traveling alone May 26, 2009
I was really worried about staying at this hotel after I read the reviews. I'm happy to report though that I had a great ... experience here!! I had a reservation for a standard-twin bed smoking room. At check-in I asked if it would be possible to have a room with a bigger bed. The front desk clerk checked and I was given a spacious room with a king size bed, no problem. My room was in the main building on the 4th floor. My next worry was a stinky room, which was not the case at all. It smelled very pleasant. There was a window that I could open (which had a sliver of a view of the dam) and along with the airconditioning system I was able to air out the effects of my smoking. The bathroom was old and outdated but clean. I ate the breakfast buffet in the wintergarten one time. The selection and quality of the offerings were great, however as it was not included in my room rate I had to pay for it. The price was outrageous, and I would have had to drink the champagne to get my money's worth. The location of this hotel is unbeatable!!! I found that using the trams very convenient for getting close to the attractions and to save on steps. Be sure to have comfortable walking shoes.

Great Hotel and Perfect Location
Hamiltons Mar 6, 2009
We went for a long weekend. Our plan was to have a romantic getaway, walk everywhere, and see as much as we could see in ... three days. The location of the hotel was only a few blocks from Central Station and walking distance to everywhere. The two restaurants in the hotel were very good, and the bar was a cozy place to have drinks before or after dinner. The service was good. We would stay there again.

Amsterdam's finest
Craig Nov 16, 2008
The Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky is the grand jewel of all the Amsterdam Hotels. Location is on Dame Square across from the ... Royal Palace. It is walking distance from the Floating Flower Market, Shopping, Museums, Red Light District, Central Station and the cannel tours. The restaurants in the hotel are all 5 star. The finest dining and atmosphere in all of Amsterdam. The rooms are spacious, clean, and air conditioned. Great hotel, great rooms, great restaurants, great location, all make for a great recommendation. I couldn't find one thing I would change or find anything that I was not satisfied with.
