Comofrtable central hotel

Next to Centraal station and near red light district. Check-in friendly and courteous. Asked for quiet room, but ended up with room on second floor at back with no view, although it was VERY quiet. Room was good sized and clean. Contained old style (CRT) TV which had fault. But was ok to watch. Toiletries provided were plentiful. Safe was very useful. Overall the room was comfortable with a large double bed which was very comfortable. Didn't have to wait too long for lifts, although had to keep inserting room card to operate. Breakfast is very expensive if not included or booked in advance - so we ate out. Did not use amenities like fitness centre, sauna etc so can't comment on those. Overall a pleasant stay and would definitely book again.

Good central hotel

We had a great time on our first trip to Amsterdam, the hotel was ideally situated across from the train station and just on the doorstep of all Amsterdam had to offer. Room was clean and a decent size, reception staff were friendly and helpful, it isn't 5 star fancy but is everything you need for a city break. Only negatives were the corridors smelled quite badly and the shower leaked regardless of what I did.

.NH Barbizon Palace had a great location but should be rated a 3 1/2 to 4 star hotel

The room was spacious and clean, but the lobby and bathroom were not 5 star. It was nice to be so close to central station and the canal bus.

NH Barbizon - June 2011

The hotel is in a great location and the rooms are spacious and modern. The staff was very helpful especially the concierage. the only downside was that we had asked for a king bed and ended up with two twin cots connected together.

Great Downtown Location and nice rooms

Took the train from the airport and walked to the otel in a few minutes. I got a top level room that was great - it had exposed beams with an open celing. I doubt all the rooms are as interesting as mine. I had no problems with the elevator security, and thought the hotel was run extremely well. Everything about my stay was great, food was expensive but they had one of the best veggie burgers I have ever had.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Take the train to and from the airport - cheap ~ 4 Euros vs 55 for a taxi and it is fast. I was able to go from the door of the hotel to the airport in under 25 minutes including buying a ticket and waiting almost 10 minutes for the train. Train runs every ~15 minutes to the airport.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

We had a very nice room. Our beds were extremely comfortable. The hotel is basically across the street from the Central Train Station where you can also catch the trams and/or the canal boat rides. Very convenient location. Short walk to Dam Square. Easy to walk to the red light district too. We were very pleased with this hotel. We only stayed one night but the breakfast surprise bill kind of left us not feeling as positive, but overall it was a good experience. We will be uploading some photos of the area at [@]

Dining tip: In Hotel

The 2 of us were billed 50 euro just for breakfast. If your breakfast is not included, then consider going right down the street to your left for a 10 euro breakfast. We personally don't like throwing money away, but if we had felt it was worth it, then it would have been different.

Great Location

The location is amazing, just walking distance from Centraal Station. Took the train to & from Schiphol. Within walking distance there is so much to do and see. Trams can take you all over but I prefered to walk. Service at the Terrace restaurant was always very good, very fun staff. Reception was polite but ALWAYS seemed to be very busy checking in/out guests.

Marvellous

First time staying here. It was recommended and I'm glad we listened. The staff are attentive, pleasant and very very welcoming, (and good looking too!!) On check in we were asked if we wanted a view (Yes please!!) No extra charge!! The room was more like a suite. Based on 2 levels (!?) very comfortable, spacious and a view of Damrak & Centraal station. One thing though, the double glazing is not actually double glazing, it's quite thick panels of glass screwed over the outside windows. Other reviewers have complained of the noise of trams, Hmm! Depends on what time you get up I suppose. They dont actually start until about 7 ish I believe by which time most people are up for breakfast. However being night owls and not going to bed until the (very) small hours we didn't notice them until we woke around mid-day (LOL). So try to ignore other comments, Seriously, they're not that noticeable. The hotel bar is a nice place to meet before heading out but is somewhat dimly lit but that didn't really matter as we weren't staying long. The foyer of the hotel is just magnificent, black and white marble and very grandiose. Personal and special thanks to Johnathan on reception who very kindly helped me with trying to check in on line and very graciously offered us late check out (He'd seen us roll up in the early hours). Many Thanks indeed. Gold star :) For the Brits out there, turn left and left again outside the hotel on to Waarmoestraat, 150 yds down on the left try Teddy's Corner. See Josephine (Essex Lass). Anyway, On the whole This is a top quality hotel with top quality furnishing and decor and the best staff you could ever come across. Highly Recommend. Tip: If you're a light sleeper request a room away from the front of the hotel. They will be quieter
