Perfect location

This hotel was was right in the heart of this vibrant, bustling city. The room we were given unfortunately had a strong smell of drains ! We were immediately moved to an-upgraded room which was lovely, quite small but imaculate and modern. (no extra charge) staff couldn't be more helpfull . Breakfast was buffet style and the choice of food was extensive although pricey at €59 for two of us .would definatly stay here again and recommend to friends.

NEVER AGAIN!

We travel to Amsterdam 2-3 times a year. We usually Stay at the American or the Best Western, but since the NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky Amsterdam was available we decided to splurge. 1st. The hotel service was rude, barely friendly, like they were doing us a favor by renting us a room. 2nd. The hotel gust services insisted that a restaurant couldn't take a reservations for 30 people, after I ask him to call the restaurant back the place was more than willing accommodating 30 people. The Marriott puts on a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving buffet. 3rd As we went to check out, they read a LIST of items that they said we "used" from the mini bar. We had taken 2.( a candy bar and soda).. Not wine, wine, more wine, liquor, etc... that was listed. They took it off our bill, but I happen to hear an English couple beside us having the SAME issue. And the couple behind us. I think they need to take a serious look at their staff. This hotel my be historic but there are more lovely, FRIENDLIER places to stay.

In heavy tourist area

This was a good value hotel with a lovely staff and extremely helpful concierge (they booked taxis for me, etc). It should be stated, though, that this is in the "Times Square" area of Amsterdam. For a more authentic experience, I'd recommend staying in a smaller boutique hotel in the Jordaan area. The price was hard to beat, though! If you like a large, corporate-feeling hotel in a busy area, this is a good choice.

Shop "The Nines" - 9 square blocks of cute boutique stores! The prices aren't cheap, but the goods are gorgeous and unique.

Birthday Treat

A group of us were away for 4 days for a 60th birthday celebration. The hotel was situated right on Dam Square - perfect location for getting anywhere. Trams were very regular and literally a minute away. Shops (and Red Light District !) were also within minutes walking distance. Plenty of bars/coffee places all round the square and perfect to sit "people watching" .The square really came alive at night - all night, but as most bedrooms were at the side or back it did not disturb us.The hotel was very comfortable with friendly staff - one small criticism is that the bedrooms (especially the bathroom) although being a good size, could do with a bit of re-vamping, although kept very clean, but overall it was quite acceptable. We didn't eat in so can't comment on the food. There were plenty of eating places within 5/10 mins, so we went out every night. It is a very friendly place and we all enjoyed our short break.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

Always buy a 2/3/4 etc day travel ticket for the trams. They go all over the city and it is much cheaper than paying as you go. These can be bought from Central Railway Station. It is also cheaper to get from the airport by train/tram as taxis and shuttles pricey. The Heineken museum is well worth a visit - even if you don't like beer! We walked straight in without any waiting but suspect at peak holiday times it could be very busy with queues.

Great Hotel, great location if somewhat noisy!

This was a lovely hotel with beautifully refurbished rooms (not all done yet). The refurb was alomst perfect, great finish, spec etc but no thought had gone into noise levels with the hardwood floors being very noisy and the soundproofing to the street outside being zero. The comfy bed should have led to a good sleep but we were wakened each night with the noise from revellers walking past and shouting/singing etc below the window. Other than that it's a great place to stay.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Don't spend your family fortune on alcohol in the bars around Dam Square. A short walk straight out the door and behind the Palace (former town hall) will take you to Albert Heijn supermarket where there is lots of reasonably priced drink!

Very Nice Hotel

The location was unbeatable. Very nice hotel. Room and furnishings were a bit old and needed updating, but everything was nice and clean and very comfortable. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. You won't find a better location in Amsterdam if you want to be in the city center. You can easily walk to almost everything.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Use the Hop On Hop Off bus to see the city sites and add the canal cruise to your ticket. It is inexpensive, comfortable, and very easy to use. It stops at the major sites. You can get on and off all you want for 24 hours. You can cover the entire city easily.

Four at best

A five star hotel doesn't miss a thing. If this were a five star hotel the mattresses would be first class. Upon entering the room I figured we didn't get one of the renovated rooms I read about online and when I sat on the bed I was positive we didn't. Just looking at the bed you could see lumps and bulges and at first I thought it was due to the down comforter. The location was five star but the hotel not so much. It was quite which is important to me.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

We seemed to have a hard time finding a restaurant that catered to our tastes which are pretty ordinary. Wish I had thought to ask Suri ( the IPad queen) before venturing out. The restaurant in the hotel is pricey so I would plan your meals ahead of time before your feet give out.

Great Location, great staff

We had a lovely time at the NH Krasnapolsky. The staff was friendly, the concierge is super helpful. We got chosen as guest of the day and they gave us chocolates, dutch wafers and a coupon for the bar. The bartenders in the hotel bar make amazing cocktails, don't waste your money going to the bars outside for drinks.Loved this place!
