Perfect location

This hotel was was right in the heart of this vibrant, bustling city. The room we were given unfortunately had a strong smell of drains ! We were immediately moved to an-upgraded room which was lovely, quite small but imaculate and modern. (no extra charge) staff couldn't be more helpfull . Breakfast was buffet style and the choice of food was extensive although pricey at €59 for two of us .would definatly stay here again and recommend to friends.

NEVER AGAIN!

We travel to Amsterdam 2-3 times a year. We usually Stay at the American or the Best Western, but since the NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky Amsterdam was available we decided to splurge. 1st. The hotel service was rude, barely friendly, like they were doing us a favor by renting us a room. 2nd. The hotel gust services insisted that a restaurant couldn't take a reservations for 30 people, after I ask him to call the restaurant back the place was more than willing accommodating 30 people. The Marriott puts on a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving buffet. 3rd As we went to check out, they read a LIST of items that they said we "used" from the mini bar. We had taken 2.( a candy bar and soda).. Not wine, wine, more wine, liquor, etc... that was listed. They took it off our bill, but I happen to hear an English couple beside us having the SAME issue. And the couple behind us. I think they need to take a serious look at their staff. This hotel my be historic but there are more lovely, FRIENDLIER places to stay.

In heavy tourist area

This was a good value hotel with a lovely staff and extremely helpful concierge (they booked taxis for me, etc). It should be stated, though, that this is in the "Times Square" area of Amsterdam. For a more authentic experience, I'd recommend staying in a smaller boutique hotel in the Jordaan area. The price was hard to beat, though! If you like a large, corporate-feeling hotel in a busy area, this is a good choice.

Birthday Treat

A group of us were away for 4 days for a 60th birthday celebration. The hotel was situated right on Dam Square - perfect location for getting anywhere. Trams were very regular and literally a minute away. Shops (and Red Light District !) were also within minutes walking distance. Plenty of bars/coffee places all round the square and perfect to sit "people watching" .The square really came alive at night - all night, but as most bedrooms were at the side or back it did not disturb us.The hotel was very comfortable with friendly staff - one small criticism is that the bedrooms (especially the bathroom) although being a good size, could do with a bit of re-vamping, although kept very clean, but overall it was quite acceptable. We didn't eat in so can't comment on the food. There were plenty of eating places within 5/10 mins, so we went out every night. It is a very friendly place and we all enjoyed our short break.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

Always buy a 2/3/4 etc day travel ticket for the trams. They go all over the city and it is much cheaper than paying as you go. These can be bought from Central Railway Station. It is also cheaper to get from the airport by train/tram as taxis and shuttles pricey. The Heineken museum is well worth a visit - even if you don't like beer! We walked straight in without any waiting but suspect at peak holiday times it could be very busy with queues.
