Outstanding

Good location with a terrific view from our 20th floor room (including a spectacular lightning storm one morning). Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast, and other amenities. Reliable taxis always available the front door, or a 10-15 minute walk to city center.

Very nice hotel, with a slight walk

Very nice hotel, with comfortable rooms and luxurious accommodations. Nice amenities including a quaint gym, good bar and restaurant, and business facilities. The walk to the train station and downtown is a solid 15 minutes, which can be troublesome late at night for some but proved to be a nice way to finish off an evening on the town for us.

Lower your expectations...

Moevenpick Hotel is a good place to stay if your expectations are low. It is need of some updating and the price is not right. Hotel rooms and lobby do not exactly look as good as in the pictures you see. Definitely does not deserve 4 star rating, more like a 3. Staff and concierge on the other hand are very nice and helpful. Breakfast is good but overpriced at 22 euros per person.

Try to catch a TCA cab from the airport to the hotel as they have flat negotiated rates instead of inflated rates with others who take advantage of tourists.

Wonderful experience

The staff could not have been more helpful. We had a great view of the harbor. Breakfast was fabulous. There is a tram stop very close to the hotel which made travel to all areas of Amsterdam accessible. We will stay there again when we return.

Great location, great price

Had a great time. Hotel was within walking distance of everything. Views were great. Concierge staff was cordial, and a great help in guiding us to different locations and providing discount tickets for museum and boat tours (don't buy them at the airport!). Also gave us succinct directions to get to the train at the airport and which train to take - they picked us up by van upon arrival, although you could see the hotel from the station and could easily have walked. If I had a make a criticism, it's that the food in the restaurant was WAY expensive (thus the four instead of 5 stars). Otherwise, the hotel was clean, pleasant, and convenient. Would definitely recommend it to others!

Sightseeing tip: Long walk from hotel

The one hour canal tour is worth doing. If you start at about sunset, the light on the city is beautiful, and you end up seeing the lights on the bridges of the canals, which is also pretty.

Modern stay in Amsterdam

It is wise to be thoughtful in your approach to lodging accommodations in Amsterdam. It is a city where paying a few extra euros will likely make the difference between an optimal or sub-par stay. You can rest assured if you choose Moevenpick. The hotel's proximity to Centraal Station and tram system makes it a convenient pick. The hotel is definitely modern so if you are looking for old city charm choose someplace else. We were greeted warmly by the reception staff and we were offered an upgrade to a luxury suite or the continental breakfast. My partner and I are athletes and were traveling to compete in running events - so we took the breakfast - which was a good pick. We would recommend paying for the breakfast if it is not part of your package. We were satisfied with all amenities, especially the workout facilities and sauna. Everything met or exceeded our strict standards of cleanliness. The room was large and equipped with mini refrigerator, safe, ironing board, in-room environment control etc., everything required for a comfortable stay. At the end of our stay there was free shuttle service to Centraal Station (approximately 15 minutes from Schipol Airport).

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Take the candle light canal cruise (Gray Line Tours). It is a unique and affordable tour complete with wine, bread, cheese and a knowledgeable historian who conducted the tour in dutch, french, spanish, and english. A bicycle tour is also necessary in order to see the view of the city from a local citizen's perspective. We bought a private tour, which I would recommend.

Awesome Hotel/Perfect Trip

My husband and I talked about this trip for years and it finally happened! This hotel made it the perfect experience we always dreamed of. We really couldn't believe how lucky we were to have the opportunity to spend 7 nights in this new, tastefully decorated and perfectly located hotel. First we were impressed when we entered our room--it was awesome and the view was breath-taking, but then we were equally impressed the next morning when we arrived for the breakfast buffet for two reasons--one we didn't expect such a spread, the food was excellent. Secondly, it was complimentary as part of our package it was very much appreciated. We made an effort every morning to get up in time to enjoy a delicious breakfast before we started the day's activities. We will absolutly stay at this hotel in the future and highly recommend it to friends and family.

It would be wise to study and use the mass transit systems availabe to visit museums, canal rides, etc. Once you learn how to use them they are extremely helpful in transporting you from one attraction to another. It took us almost to the end of our trip to figure out how mush easier it was to travel by tram or bus versus walking great distances. Don't be afraid to ask locals for directions. We found everyone speaks English and were very helpful and friendly.

Moevenpick Hotel Amsterdam is great

The location is great, 5 - 10 minutes walk from Amsterdam Centraal train station. On a clear day, you can actually see the hotel from the back of the station. The free shuttle bus offer by the hotel runs on time. Buffet breakfast was ok, the usual fare. However, having breadfast included is a plus as food is expensive in Europe. Amsterdam is a lovely city and very easy to navigate. We love this place and will definetely be back in the very near future to stay longer.

If you like chinese food, China town is about a 10 minutes walk from Centraal station, next door to the Dam and Red light district. Food is fantastic, probably in the same category as is San Fransisco and Toronto.
