Housed in a monumental late-19th century edifice, formerly the St. Elisabeth Orphanage, the Hotel Arena Amsterdam offers guests an exciting fusion of historic architecture and modern design. Guests enjoy the tranquility of the hotel's residential setting yet remain within a short commute from many of the city's leading cultural, shopping and nightlife attractions. Charmingly boutique rooms are equipped with modern amenities without losing rich historic appeal. Hotel Arena also offers a sophisticated in-house restaurant, lounge and nightclub.

Rooms

The Hotel Arena's 116 boutique guest rooms welcome guest with minimalist modern décor, genuine oak flooring and, in some cases, high ceilings. All rooms, from the deluxe guest rooms to studios and suites, come furnished with plush double beds and each room bears perfectly preserved 19th-century design elements. Guests enjoy satellite TV with On Demand movies and high-speed Internet access (fees apply).  Suites offer beautiful city, courtyard or garden views.

Property features

A full slate of dining and nightlife options ensures guests enjoy a packed evening without leaving the hotel. ToDine boasts first-class Dutch and international cuisine in a sleek, yet cozy setting imagined by famed Dutch interior designer Ronald Hooft. Guests enjoy cocktails at the ToDrink lounge with chic, cosmopolitan interior or--in warmer months--on the spacious terrace. The Hotel Arena's swish, 2-story nightclub, ToNight, is the perfect hotspot to dance the night away.

Business travelers have access to showpiece meeting rooms. The boardroom, cloister room, garden room and church hall are all high-tech spaces that ingeniously merge technology with the Hotel Arena's heritage architecture.

Good Hotel & Location

I detest European style showers that let the water spray all over the bathroom! That's the style they had at this hotel. If you feel the same, you may want to look elsewhere.

A Little Spooky, but Fun!

The hotel is a renovated orphanage with a lot of history. The building itself and our room had a lot of character and it was fun to explore, albeit a little spooky. The morning breakfast is a pretty good deal, and the on premises night club are a plus. We had two dinners at the hotel. They were both quite good, however I would recommend exploring other restaurants for a more authentic feel.

An interesting hotel in an interesting city

Converted orphanage with lots of character, fun staff, decent food, really nice free breakfast, easy access to the subway and beautiful canal setting. . . i really enjoy staying here while in Amsterdam because it is a quick trip to the old section of the city, but not in a tourist district, so it is quiet.

Nightlife tip: Not Applicable

5-10 minute walk to the subway that is easy to use and you are 5-10 minutes by train to the old section of town. . . they sell passes at the front desk and give you a map and you are off to the races.

Excellent choice for great value!

Everything was great except the wi-fi. It would require us to log back in every 15 minutes if internet connection is idle, which is annoying.

We'll be back!!

Lovely location and very easy to reach once we figured out the trams lol. The staff were very helpful and friendly. 24 hour manned reception which was great. And an excellent attached bar/restaurant great for early morning coffee or a late drink. Location very quiet especially mid-week. The Zoo is two tramstops away. All in all a great place to stay. We will be back lol.
