Very good hotel for the price

The room was warm and clean. (during winter time) For us, hotel was not so far away from the center, and that is about 20-30 minutes with tram from the central station. When you get to hotel you will have to pay taxes. For two of us it was cca 7 euros. Tram ticket is expensive if you buy it for one direction (2.6 euros) but if you bought for 72 hours or more than it is not. (72 hours - 15.5 euros)

Hotel of LAST Resort

I had booked this very expensive hotel room ($236 per night) as a surprise for my boyfriend. And boy were we surprised when we lnded up there. The hotel is far away from the city centre. (15 tram stops)The receptionist was not very friendly to start with.We were asked to pay a further 20 Euro per night as 'taxes', something that no other hotel in our trip required.Breakfast was not included in the room cost, (it is usually included in hotels in the area) Besides breakfast was overpriced at 14.50 per person per day.Internet was not included and when we payed for it, it was slow and unrelieable. The room, far from being the luxurious suite I hd imagined, was a standard, smallish twin bed affair. The two beds, when joined together left a crack between them so wide that it was near impossible to do anything else but sleep in them. The toilet was badly designed and in poor maintenance. The shower head was broken and was tied in place by a plastic bag. Besides using the shower flooded the whole toilet. The towels were stained, worn and threadbare as were the carpets. The door frame was loose with plaster falling off around the edges everytime the door was shut. The room looked out onto a yard with a rusty shipping container. The yard itself was paved but overrun by weeds. There was no ice machine and the bar staff was extremely rude when we asked for ice.In short I would advise travelers not to pay anything more than 50 Euros a night for this and any other HEM Hotel.[...]

Price is the key issue. Very basic hotel

We had a required layover on our return flight from Copenhagen. What was important to us was a hotel that had a room for 4 adults, price, and an airport shuttle as we got in late and had to return to airport early. I assumed the airport shuttle was free. It was not, instead it was about 17 euro per person each way. If you are two or more, a taxi is much better. (about 30 euro). We found a wonderful taxi driver that drove us from the airport and around Amsterdam so we could get a sense of the city. 60 euros for a wonderful experience. That said, if you were wanting to explore the city, you would likely want to take a taxi to the city center. It isn't far away. This hotel is in a close in suburb. We were told that the nearby train station was not good/safe late at night, so that limits your options. Plus, given the warning, you would likely not want to walk, but instead take a taxi to and from the station, although the neighborhood did not look particularly unsafe to us. Perhaps not the best option to use as a base to explore the city. Lots of singles in the hotel, and the staff was very friendly. They also had a late night snack bar, which worked well for us getting in so late. In summary, a good value for a group or family for overnight/layover. Consider how you will get from the hotel to other parts of the city if you plan to explore Amsterdam. This hotel might not be too good for exploring the city if what we were told about the train station is accurate. Otherwise, it is pretty close in and a good value.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

If you have more than two traveling, take care to make sure that you book an appropriate room. (Most european rooms are two single beds with no extra room). Also, check to see if there is a charge for airport shuttle before booking. Taxis may be cheaper.

Great Hotel Overall

My friends and I spent three nights at the Hem Hotel and we were pleasantly surprised at the overall place. I had gotten two quads for amazing prices (half as much as HOSTELs) so I wasn't expecting amazing rooms. However, what we recieved far succeeded the low expectations. the rooms were nice and clean, and fairly spacious. The location is not bad at all...just outskirts of the city where it's quiet and nice neighborhood (about one minute walk to the tram and 10 minute tram ride to the center of the city). Overall highly recommend.

I stayed there for two days and I found it calm, clean and comfortable. It is a little bit far from the centre of the city but there are good tram connections and that was not a problem at all.

it was great

I WAS THERE FOR A SWIM MEET IN EINDHOVEN. THEY FOUND OUT WHERE IT WAS ABOUT THREE MONTHS PRIOR, SO I DIDN'T SPEND TO MUCH TIME IN THE HOTEL. YOU WOULDN'T LET ME CHANGE LOCATION, SO I SPENT ONLY THE TIME TO SLEEP FROM 1100 AT NIGHT TIL 0530 IN THE MORNING. I HAD TO BE IN EINDHOVEN BY 0900 EACH MORNING. MY PREVIOUS TRIP WAS GREAT AND THIS ONE COULD'VE BEEN BETTER BUT I SPENT TO MUCH TIME WORRYING ABOUT TRAM, BUS AND TRAIN SCHEDULES.
