Dining

Restaurant & Bar
Two of the most special places to "wine & dine" in Amsterdam are located in the Hampshire Hotel - Amsterdam American. Our Caf Americain is a sparkling "hot spot" for local Amsterdam people, writers and artists: who come along for a bite, a drink, or just for reading the newspaper at the reading table. Do you fancy meeting someone famous? Both national and international movie stars have been spotted in our renown Bar Americain from time to time. Bar Americain has recently been restyled and therefore is even more popular than before amongst locals. It is also still the "hot spot" for national and international movie stars. An ideal place for VIP-spotting while drinking an award winning cocktail. During summertime the terrace offers a great opportunity to watch people.
Cafe Americain
Wine and dine among the local Amsterdam people, artists and actors. The ambiance in the dazzling Cafe Americain is dynamic and most of all cosy. It has been called Amsterdam's living room by many and that is exactly how it feels. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, just a coffee or a pleasant drink. At the Cafe Americain or on the amazing terrace during the summer time, you will always feel comfortable.
Terrace
During the summertime and when the sun is shining, in front of the hotel the terrace is openend. Were you can enjoy a drink, lunch or dinner while watching the fountain and the sun.

Great Trip.

Would recommend Sat, Dec 5, 2015
The hotel and its staff are of a high standard. It is well located so getting around, from museums to other areas in the city were fairly easy. The only issue was when an event was being held and the lobby was packed with guests for the event. This was done with no warning of there being an event that may cause crowding and make leaving as well as entering the hotel difficult.

Quick Stay

Would recommend Wed, Dec 2, 2015
I grabbed this hotel for a quick overnighter could not be more pleased for the regarding price. Great location for walking around the city. Room was large but cold, and the thermostat was finicky. Bed was a little on the worn side and softer then average, but hey, I still slept just fine. Breakfast is a great buffet assortment. and overall I would totally stay here again.

Great hotel and location

Would recommend Tue, Nov 24, 2015
We stayed for 2 nights in November and were really impressed with the hotel. It is in a great central location which makes it easy to get around and see all the sites. The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff were the best bit - very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Would recommend Mon, Nov 16, 2015
The hotel staff were great and very accommodating! The room was very clean. The bed was so comfy and warm. Great location within walking distance to practically everything. If you don't like walking there were 3 tram stops right out front to get you anywhere you wanted to be.

Nice hotel, little outdated and you can get some really isolated rooms with a view of the roof. About what you would expect in an older hotel.

Great staff(responded quickly to requests and were very friendly and accommodating!) Great location, great bar(again, all staff were cool, even sorting out a restaurant reservation for me, when it looked like there was no availability!) Expensive, but worth it...

Big Disappointment

Would not recommend Sun, Oct 25, 2015
We booked a so called deluxe room. The lighting was dim and depressing even when they added a dim standing lamp. The mattress was soft and when I sat on it, it was reduced to a sliver. Wallpaper was peeling. Chunks of plaster were missing around the window. The website promises upscale bathroom products and robes. We did not get that at all. We got one thin soap bar that turned to mush by the second day, no shower cap and a combo shampoo and body soap dispenser in the shower/tub like you might find in a gym. On the third day of our 5 night stay I showed the website to the manager and asked why I didn't have robes in the room. He stated that I could only get it on request. So I requested the robes. I asked another guest if her room was rundown like ours. She told us that she detected a bad odor from the carpet on arrival and was shown a room that was much worse and decided to keep the room with the odor. I then wrote a detailed e-mail with my complaints to the hotel manager. He offered to change our room on our last night. I responded that based on what the other guest told me that I had no confidence that another room would be better. He responded that I had one of the older rooms and that other guest also probably had one of the older rooms and that there are newer nicer rooms. The manager also said in his e-mail that we were supposed to have been given robes in our room and he did not know why we didn't receive them upon check in. The head of housekeeping came to see if she could make us feel better. We were offered lunch in the dining room for which we were not available as we were sightseeing during the day. Then we were offered dinner, which we accepted. Also, a bottle of wine with fruit was given to us in our room on the evening of my written complaint. On the last evening, new amenities arrived in the room. They were normal soaps (2), slippers and a shower cap. I was told that this hotel will be renovated in the future. I expressed that this did not help me at all. I don't understand why we were not given one of the newer rooms since we booked this hotel many months in advance. I also don't understand why they charge the same price for a rundown room as for a newer room. My husband and I tried to make the best of an uncomfortable situation. This room was not worth what we paid for it.
