Secluded & Comforting

The Amrath Hotel was a treat to come home to after meandering through Amsterdam for a week. Pros: super comfy cloud like beds, great view (upon request), 24 hour room service, free wifi, free mini-bar (stocked daily!!!) amazing spa & fitness center, early check in (upon request), 5 minute walk to Grand Central Station, great bathrooms by European hotel standards. Cons: restaurants could use some reworking of prices to reflect mediocre food quality, confusing to navigate through though you get used to it after a day or two.

Quite an experience,Unbelievable beautiful building with lots of history.

Nice staff, nice welcome, only one mishap. The wake up call at 5AM in the morning was not performed. We asked the night before. Our alarm clock was set, so no big deal, but it was a flaw. We hope that the people in 209 were not getting the call. Black countertops in the bathroom, make for not so clean looking amenities. They show spots that seems to be dirty, but are relatively clean.

very nice hotel

This hotel is in a great location near the Centraal Station. My room was very comfortable, especially the bed. I didn't like the hotel when I first walked in because it looks spooky. However, it is pretty and it grew on me. All the stained glass is interesting. The free minibar is a nice perk. The only thing I didn't like was the lights. You have to put in a card, but there were stairs going down into the room, so it is easy to fall if you are trying to turn them on in the dark. Also, the tub is very tall for climbing in and out. So, it might not be a good choice for an older person. I would definitely like to stay there again, though.

Unique

This hotel is a unique and incredibly interesting building - if you like your architecture, you will find it intriguing. Didn't try the restaurant but it is highly rated, the spa was not bad albeit you are always running the risk of rowdy stag and hen parties in Amsterdam and this is no exception given the very good value our sub-£100 a night deal represented. The rooms are spacious with cavernously high ceiling, huge windows (great views across the old city from the 3rd floor up) and excellent modern bathrooms. The minibar being complimentary was a great touch too. On the whole, it was a very good hotel and I'd have no hesitation in recommending it.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

Best strip for restaurants in Amsterdam is Utrechtesstraat - some tremendous contemporary European but also great Indonesians and some other unusual treats. The little Tibetan place Tashi Deleg served fantastic food.

Excellent for travelers

Hotel is tastefully converted from prestigious shipping office headquarters and is in beautiful Art Nouveau style. High ceilings lead to spacious ambiance. Major attraction is walking distance from main rail station with excellent service to airport. Also within walking distance to many tourist spots including canal boats. Very satisfying breakfasts and many restaurants nearby.

the construction features of this hotel are very interesting, unique, and plentiful. it isn't very often that one can stay in a converted, old business structure, origionally built with expense being slight consideration. staff was first class, room large, and my first ever free mini bar!

Excellent quality hotel

Idea for seeing round Amsterdam and handy for the railway station. Great staff, wonderful food, would stay again. Only complaint, Dinner cost, this could have explained why very few guests eat in the Hotel. They were the losers as the food was outstanding. Recommend the Chiefs menu, Head waiter took time to explain each of the wines.

4.5 Stars, not 5

Overall, an excellent property with helpful and pleasant staff. Very clean and great location. Would definitely recommend it and would go back. A nice touch is the minibar is included in the rate, so use all of it every day to get best value. We ate only in the bar and the food was good. Did not try the main restaurant. Wellness Center looked good, but felt a little clautrophobic being buried in the basement. Only downsides were the window didn't open & there was no air conditioning/fan control to circulate the air. Historic and beautiful historic property. Not a party place, though.

City Break

Booked into this hotel on the afternoon of the 29 July and was given a ground floor room facing the road. I had booked a deluxe city room view. That night was one of the worst we had spent in a hotel abroad. The road was the ring road of Amsterdam plus there was a bus stop outside our window. The next day I went to reception and they gave us a 2nd floor room with a canal view which was very nice and they arranged for our bag to be delivered to the room. So after a bad start we could not have been happier. Helpful staff and very clean, ideal location for getting round the city. Added bonus the mini bar is free wine/spirits/soft drinks and snacks.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

If you are visiting Anne Frank's house book online before you go. There is a separate entrance and you miss the long line. The Rijksmuseum - book a tour - which costs an extra 5 euros when booking your tickets on line and you can walk straight in. Also has a good cafe.
