Not quite as advertised

The hotel is located in the middle of a business development and is very quiet during weekends. Food is very good however also very expensive. With a short walk to the tram it is quite easy and relatively quick and easy to get to downtown Amsterdam. The breakfast buffet is prohibitively overpriced, however there aren't any other options for restaurants nearby. There isn't enough space in the bar fridges to add any of your own items either, should you be interested in purchasing your own food. CAUTION REGARDING BEDS: The "Queen" sized bed is actually two singles pushed together with a foam wedge in the middle. It is impossible to sleep comfortably across this wedge, and so you might as well just go for a room with two separate beds and perhaps save some money. This hotel is also not well air conditioned. The fans in the room simply cycle air from the hallways into the rooms, it can take quite a while to cool a room down to Canadian normal standards. Our first night, the fan didn't even work and it was uncomfortably hot, however the staff did an excellent job switching our room at 4am. The fitness room is spartan with a treadmill, rowing machine, and elliptical plus one bench and some free weights. No mirrors or floor pads are available. The ceiling was also too low to allow me (6'6"/195cm) to run on the treadmill without hitting my head!

Rent a scooter for a day or so, they can be driven on the excellent bicycle paths all through the city. Just be careful to avoid pedestrian only areas!

Convenient for business, not tourists

Ideally located for those travelling for business with the many companies located immediately in that vacinity, but too far from Amsterdam City Centre to be convenient for tourists. Staff is not well trained in superior service. One gets the senses that they mean well, but are often overwhelmed or short-staffed and don't seem to understand the levels of attentiveness and service most business travelers require, and Americans are accustomed to.

Good hotel bad location!

Once we found the hotel it was nice. If your going to Amsterdam for the local color ie., night life, shopping, dining you should pick a hotel much closer to the city. This hotel was nice clean etc... out of the way!

my stay at this hotel

Very clean and tidy but didnt realise how far it was from the center and on the last night. The staff gave me a bus time table that only ran mon to fri and told me that buses ran on weekends when they didnt. And when i got back to the room and realised this i went back to reception and she booked at taxi for the next morning that cost us €25 euros. They dont tell you all the add ons. Also €50 deposit that we wasnt told about so more money to spend. But overall it was a nice hotel.

Not too far from Centrum

The hotel's location is about 5 km from the center, and the walk over is quite nice. I would suggest taking a cab ride to learn the route and take the risk of touring the town on feet to get a good mix of all the different zones.

Take a walk from the hotel to the red light and you will get a great look at the architecture and see the different retail that makes the city compelling.

great value for money

We stayed at the hotel only for one night and it was very pleasant. The room is spacious but it was very dusty and one of the towels was dirty. The parking was also very expensive €19.50/ day. Overall a good hotel.

Nice and not too far out of the way

The hotel is very clean, modern, and well kept. And since the hotel is a good distance from the city centre, it is considerably cheaper than you would expect. The best thing to do is to take the trams into the city. There is a tram stop about 3 blocks from the hotel, which is Tram 2, that will take you through a large part of locations of interest. It runs right by Vondelpark, museums such as the Van Gogh, the "I Amsterdam" sign, Leidseplien, Dam Square, and of course it ends at Central Station. The negatives with this hotel are that since the trams stop running around midnight, it may limit how long you can stay out, since the only other ways back would be using the buses or taking a taxi(which will be expensive). Also, the hotel offers a buffet breakfast but it is not included in the room rate. It costs 19 Euro's and is definately not worth the price. The best advice is to just get dressed and head into the city centre, as a breakfast there will be cheaper and of better quality there.

Use Tram 2, which has a stop about 3 blocks from the hotel, to get to the famous Red Light District. It takes about 10-15 minutes. Get off at the Dam Square stop (which they refer to as "The Dam") and you are a short walk from the red lights. There are plenty of restuarants, "coffeshops", and a couple of dance clubs in the area.

Interesting Hotel - Great Service

The hotel isn't close to the Centrum so there's a hike to get back and forth to the best areas where food and drink can be found - the hotel does have bikes and scooters for rent but the walk will give you a good chance to see Amsterdam's less touristy side. The paths between the hotel and the Centrum are perfect for biking and skating (some of the best I've ever seen in the world). About the room - I thought it was tidy with the exception of the dirty floor - hardwood floor that needed to be swept and the sink / shower drains were very slow - not sure why that was but it was gross. The hotel staff were very professional, kind, and helpful - the hotel restaurant / bar was good.

Go to the Centrum and find a store called "Dirk's" - get yourself some bottled water and other snacks because the hotel doesn't really offer a reasonable solution in this area - unless you consider 3.50 euro can of water to be reasonable when you're thirsty.
