Enjoy elegant, old-world Amsterdam at this historic, centrally located charmer

Just blocks from the historic, breathtaking Dam Square stands the Die Port van Cleve Hotel, a classic 121-room tribute to Dutch hospitality and cozy elegance. For both business and leisure travelers, the hotel offers excellent in-house comfort and cuisine in between Amsterdam excursions. Just steps from the Die Port van Cleve, guests can take in Magna Plaza's upscale shopping, while the dazzling Dam Square along with Amsterdam's wealth of architectural and cultural wonders are all within walking or biking distance.

Highlights
  • Classic, renowned in-house eatery, established in 1870
  • Elegant, historic in-house bar featuring traditional jenever and liquors
  • Central Amsterdam location, close to premium shopping, dining and sightseeing
Rooms

The Die Port van Cleve Hotel's 121 non-smoking rooms welcome guests with cozy yet modern decor, wood furnishings and accents of royal blue, burgundy and mustard for a sense of soothing elegance. Standard guest rooms come with either a twin or double bed, while the executive level business suites come with king beds. Suites also come with separate bedroom and living room quarters and two bathrooms.

The Die Port van Cleve's rooms all feature complimentary wired and Wi-Fi access, flat-screen cable TVs with On Demand entertainment (suites come with two TVs), along with laptop-accommodating safes.

Features

The 1880s architecture and design elements of Die Port van Cleve Hotel evoke old-world Dutch warmth and charm. While modern amenities like complimentary Wi-Fi offer convenience, it's touches like the Delft blue-tile frescoes from 1887 together with the fine liquors and jenever tastings at the hotel's elegant Bar De Blauwe Parade that provide authentic appeal at the Port van Cleeve Hotel. Succulent, deservedly renowned steaks (the hotel has served more than six million) and hearty Danish cuisine are on order at the Die Port van Cleve's welcoming Brasserie Du Poort. The property also provides tour desk, reception and laundry services.

Dining

Brasserie 'De Poort'
In the Brasserie 'De Poort' you can enjoy a combination of traditional Dutch and international cuisine, prepared with fresh ingredients daily. The restaurant is famous for its numbered steaks, which have been served here since 1870 and come with their own numbered certificate. The unique 'no-nonsense' style of the executive chef ensures a pure culinary adventure.
Bar 'De Blauwe Parade'
The authentic Bar-Bodega 'De Blauwe Parade', well known for its unique Delft Blue Frieze, is an institution in Amsterdam. For an aperitif, a joyful drink or perhaps an original gin tasting, Bar-Bodega 'De Blauwe Parade' is the place to be. The bar is also a great place for an informal diner.
Coffee Corner/ Bar 'De Hooiberg'
At Coffee corner/ Bar 'De Hooiberg' the staff will gladly welcome you for a relaxing cup of coffee, tea, appetizer or a digestive. With a street front location it is great to watch the people pass by in the busy centre of Amsterdam city. This historic bar is located next to the Brasserie 'De Poort' and was once part of the Heineken brewery, which shows from the wall frescoes and wooden floors. Guests can stop in for drinks or light snacks from late morning through early evening.

Hotel is located in very good location in close reach of everything. amenities in room are perfect. I had a superior room and would recommend that. The only two items that needed improvement was WIFI was weak and dropped very often. Add a repeater on each floor to increase strength or add a switch on each floor. Most staff were nice except for one who forgot the guest are on vacation they flew hrs across the ocean and are tired. If you have no room ready its fine but maybe hotel can offer a drink or a discount to lunch or a nice kind you know what we will try our best to help. I told them i worked in a hotel before and was not kidding you treat your guest kindly with hope not dry character. Yes check in is at 2PM many hotels accomodate because they know flights don't follow that and you check out way earlier anyways. For the rest its a great hotel

good way to end our vacation

Location was great and staff was very helpful in recommending and helping us get reservations. Use their recommended restaurant list it would be nice if they had a weight room and also for a single sheet for those who don't like the duvet.

Die Port van Cleve, July -12

First of all, NOT really a four star hotel. So if you wish to stay in a true 4 star hotel with matching service, rooms and overall quality, this is not your best choice. Rooms are small'ish with basic equipment. During our stay it seemed that pretty much everything was broken... the elevator, air conditioning, safe, water boiler etc. Location is superb, and if you mostly use your hotel room to sleeping and showering, like me and my friend did, you' ll be happy with Die Port Van Cleve. Rooms were cleaned everyday and the staff was friendly most of the time. Remember city tax which you have to pay when you check out! Slightly overpriced 3 star hotel with excellent location.

great city, great hotel!

The hotel was very nice and perfectly located. Friendly staff, top notch restaurant on site, bar, snacks..pretty much everything you could need. Shopping, coffee shops, red light district all within 5 minutes of walking. The rooms are a bit small, but you're not going to spend much time there anyway. I would definitely stay here again.

Excellent location, everything else pretty average

We stayed in a perfectly nice room with two single beds, although it was so small they were pushed together as though a double...so sort of an odd choice overall. The location was excellent and couldn't have been better. 10-minute walk or 2-minute tram ride from the central station and immediately across from the Royal Palace. The website claimed it was a four-star hotel, but it's really more of a three and half-star hotel. The staff fell over themselves to be helpful, but they were a little surprised when I asked them basic things about Amsterdam, which seemed odd to me. They spent a lot of time (diligently) looking things up on the internet for us that I sort of expected someone working in a hotel lobby to know

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Facing the hotel, about 300 feet to the left is a large grocery and liquor store where you can get anything you need. There is a "coffee shop" to the right by about 600 feet.

Hotel is on bus and tram stop. Very close to central station and red light district. We are in our 70's and we walked there. We had balcony room and had nice view of outside traffic and people.Good selection of food and drink but we ate out.we got no bar soap or face cloth in bathroom and no ice bucket nor ice in our room.

Small, No Electricity, Quite, No View

The hotel was average nothing that stood out. Good dinners. Didn't have electricity when first checked in. Very small room, didn't get the room I requested. The view was of other windows in a courtyard. Fairly helpful staff. Locations was the best thing. Close to many attractions.

Service is the word @ Die Port van Cleve

Right on the Tram route and across from the Royal Palace is the best place to be in Amsterdam. And yet, Die Port van Cleve was absolutely quiet to sleep at night. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and we felt at home and safe there. Best was the Countryside tour to see the Windmills, the cheese factory and the wooden shoe factory. Well worth the money.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Native Dutch food wasn't to our liking but we found a great Pizza place on the same street towards the Central station, and a great Indian place a bit down Rokin (ask the staff).
