Chic&Basic Amsterdam combines its contemporary design with the typical architecture of the city in a building with a 300 years old facade. This combination promises a unique experience. The modern and comfortable rooms are distributed on 3 floors and 3 buildings. The be_ yourself area invites to relax, have a coffee, surf in the internet and "be yourself". New Amsterdam Hotel is located in one of the most quiet and charming quarters of the city of Amsterdam. The property is positioned on the border of the Jordaan, which used to be a residential quarter, later transformed into a very popular destination, brimming with cafes and restaurants. Within a short walking distance from the hotel, you can find most of the major tourist attractions. The attentive and friendly staff will guide you, arrange sightseeing schedules and also ensures your stay is enjoyable.

Chic & Basic Hotel Amsterdam Rooms

Rooms
Our room categories are M, L and XL. The difference between the room categories is not its size, as it seems to be, but its location in the building and the view (canal view). The guest rooms are brand new, modern and at the same time comfortable. With our light system (LEDS) you can change the illumination according your mood. Due to the architecture of the building, every room has its own shape and character. The rooms are equipped with a TFT screen, Internet high speed connection and bathroom.

good location

This is our second stay in this hotel. It is exactly as described,..chic and basic. A good base for exploring Amsterdam with only a five/ten minute walk to the train station. Worth paying for a canal view, Only down side of this stay was that the kitchen was closed and only had toast and jam for breakfast, we were not made aware of this until our arrival. Overall good value though.

Good location, otherwise disappointing

Great location. Otherwise, hotel is in disrepair. It was clean, but falling apart. Bathroom with very slow drain--nearly flooded my room with a 3 minute shower. I would not stay there again.

Very good location and excellent value

Location is great - at intersection of two canals one block from main street and three blocks from Centraal Station. Room was extremely clean, bed was great, white, clean, lights and amenities very convenient. Staff was very frendly and helpful, front desk guy show me where the tea/coffee machine was, and where the breakfast was served , and it was done in 5 seconds. The whole experience was very good. Will try to stay there again (probably next week). Price was very good for Amsterdam also - like 70 euros.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Greek restaurant, soup, salad, souvlaki plus pitcher of rose house wine - 17 euros! Also Wok to Walk (several locations nearby) is the very good option.

Chic Basic and Remodeling

Chic and Basic is the name and the decor and hotel match that name well. The room was an odd shape but the layout wasn't a problem. The room and bathroom were clean and tidy. The bread and coffee in the lobby was great. My sister and I enjoyed the personal touches. Probably the best part of this hotel is the location, far enough away from the noise yet an easy walk to it. My only problem with the hotel was the remodeling, and not so much the remodeling as the start time of the workers (7:30a). In my opinion it would have been nice to have the rooms next door to the work maybe not in use, or ask the work to start at 9am. But all-in-all I would return and recommend it to my friends (but I'll ask about remodeling noise for sure).

Loved it!

The hotel was great. Extremely clean and away from the red light district but close enough to everything else. The staff was friendly, bi-lingual and ready to help with everything. My room needed a fresh coat of paint, but the letter on my bed apologized that my room was not up to par. I can't wait to tell everyone about this hotel and experiencing this hotel again in Amsterdam and in Spain.

The staff were extremely helpful

The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The location is great, not far from the station and in good walking distance to just about everything. Had a wonderful time there. Thanks to everyone for making my stay peaceful and relaxing. This is not a luxury hotel by any means but it has all the requirements for an excellent stay in Amsterdam

Wonderful location - walking distance

Wonderful location - walking distance from Central train station n ALL major tourists' sites. Brand new feeling as compared with many rundown facades n hotel lobbies we see as we walk around the vicinity. Only downside - no elevator - travellers, pls travel light otherwise be prepared to lug your big luggage up the narrow, steep stairway. Alert ! Housekeeping clears ALL empty containers, regardless if they obviously look like a personal travel-sized toiletry container !
