Family Review

Rooms two small. Bathrooms' showers without curtains. Water spilled all over the bathroom floor. Matresses too old. If We return to Amsterdam, definitely look for another hotel.

Good value city hotel for families with older children

Chose this hotel for value and location and was very pleased with choice. Only 5 mins walk from Centraal station. You can leave your luggage in the luggage store both prior to check in time and after check out. The reception staff are very friendly, a rare breed these days! We had a quad room for two adults and two teenagers. Perfect, girls had single beds on a mezzanine floor. The staircase to the mezzanine was very steep and for that reason I wouldnt recommend this room as a family room for young children. Please check that hotel has family rooms on one level if taking children under 8 or any sleepwalkers! Breakfast is included and is great. Dutch pancakes included which were scrummy. There is a drinks vending machine in the lobby, tea is only 50 cents. There is also free use of a PC and wifi through out hotel. I would stay here again on a city break without hesitation, although please note it is 3 star and if you are looking for a little more luxury you may want to pay more and stay in a 4 star.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

Bazaar restaurant on Albert Cyp street is fantastic and good value. Soup and bread for lunch only 4.5 euros! Fussy teenagers much preferred it to Dutch food restaurants.

Nice location, but.......

The location was the best feature for sure. The staff is not very friendly or helpful -- almost like every question was met with a grimace. The beds and pillows were bad too.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

The Central Station was a quick walk and the canal trip was there too. Both save a lot of money in getting to and from different areas.

Just fine

Great location, pleasant and helpful staff, good breakfast, surprisingly quiet, fine room although a persistent smell of smoke or perhaps some weird cleaning agent.

Location, breakfast included.

The Avenue Hotel was perfect for our 5-day vacation needs in Amsterdam. We traveled with our adult daughter, the triple room was more than spacious and comfortable...3 twin beds, a table and chairs, large bathroom with double sinks (!)a tub and a shower. The included breakfasts were generous and good. We arrived at 7AM and the hotel allowed us to relax and enjoy breakfast and store our bags before we took off for our first day of sights. Easy walk from Central Station (train), on the tram line, and our room was on the tram side but we were not bothered by noise at all. Easy walk to all museums, shopping, and the city in general.

Yellow Bike Rental: took a 4-hour guided bike tour across the IJ river through the countryside. Learned and saw a different aspect of the country.

Excellent for price, location comfort.

This hotel is ideal all round. It is within easy walking distance of Central Station and most of the sights of Amsterdam. Trams and buses stop nearby. Our room was spacious and clean, staff were friendly and the breakfast was excellent. There are plenty of places nearby to eat in the evening.

Good value for the money

While the rooms are small by US standards, ours was quite comfortable. Lovely deep tub for soaks, but may be to short if you are over 5' 10". Beds are hard, but we prefer that. When used to a top sheet having only a duvet seems odd. Hope they wash them ater each guest! No pool or workout room, but we did not want them anyway. From the front desk we got a great deal on canal boat/tram tickets that got us everywhere we wanted to go. Loved the Van Gogh museum. This was a 2 day stopover on our way to Kenya. Will definately plan more time in Amsterdam on our next trip. The sense of history is amazing, the architecture so lovingly maintained. We arrived at 9 am and they let us have our room! So after a short nap we could enjoy the city.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Fascinating restaurants abound! Be prepared to spend at least 1 - 1 1/2 hours for dinner. Food is an experience to share with companions here, and they do not rush. The bakeries are the best I have ever been to, the cheese shops are amazing.
